Short history of the activities dedicated to the Great Cosmic Powers
Among other exceptional spiritual moments, within the picturesque and colorful scenery of each summer, there are also the camps for deepening the communion with the beloved Cosmic Powers of the ancient tantric tradition, known under the name of Dasha Maha Vidya: the ten great fundamental wisdoms, facets of the Unique Truth, supreme energies who are continually weaving the fabric of this Manifestation, fulfilling in this way the Will of the Unique One.
These activities, initiated and supported by Grieg, have become landmarks in our spiritual life and in the lives of many of our colleagues with whom we’ve shared their magnificent moments.
At Grieg’s suggestion, all these activities follow a certain structure: they begin with a polarisation period during which the women and men deepen, in their specific way, the adoration of the Great Cosmic Powers through meditations, Hatha Yoga practice and separate conferences. The period for deepening the specific feminine or masculine polar activation ends with activities which make use of the attraction and strong energising built up in this manner. Thus each participant has the possibility to become aware of the importance of cultivating his or her own nature to attain the specific perfect state of being: the state of spiritual hero (Vira), in the case of men and, the state of Shakti – as a divine channel manifesting the Divine Creative Energy, in the case of women.
Within each of these camps, we practice tantric exercises of transfiguration and identification with certain aspects of the respective Godly Powers in the way they manifest through feminine beings endowed with a significant resonance with them. These exercises favour the awakening of each participant’s soul and her or his direct communion with that aspect of the adored Great Cosmic Power, which is leading to profound revelations and transformations of the perspective and of the personal connection with that Maha Vidya.
The practical elements performed in these camps are built on a solid basis of theoretical presentations and discussions that reveal esoteric aspects of the Cosmic Powers as they appear in ancient tantric treatises, as well as correlations with the most modern discoveries of science which reveal the reality of these Fundamental Energies. The conferences also reveal some practical modalities for entering in resonance with their gigantic sphere of force in the daily life and remarkable personal experiences of some students who gained certain achievements through the communion with these Cosmic Forces.
In 2010 we had the first of these camps of communion with the Maha Vidya Yoga Path: a week dedicated to the Great Cosmic Power of Time and Transformation, Kali. The camp was taken by the wings of the energy of the beginning and the Great Cosmic Power Kali, the Mistress of the Tantric Path impreganted the incendiary atmosphere of Costinesti with intensity, sensuality, refined eroticism, the lively wish for transformation, glimpses of mystery and overwhelming vitality.
In 2011 the Great Cosmic Power Tara, the Shining One, the Embodiment of Divine Compassion gathered us on her way that is so pure and immaculate, through a kind overflowing of Gentle Light, ethereal or terrible in her crystalline shining, touching the deepest chords of our souls, awakening the aspiration towards the ideals of sacrifice and abnegation for helping all sentient beings.
In 2012 we experienced the moment of adoring the Great Cosmic Power Tripura Sundari, the almighty beauty of the three worlds, the Shining Splendor of Love, Truth and Divine Beauty. The magical moments of manifestation of the Supreme Love were entwined with revelations about the spiritual nature of desire and its alchemy into an endless longing towards the Absolute which thrills our hearts and awakens our souls.
Above all, the peak moments of these Maha Vidya camps are the unique initiations offered and supported by our spiritual guide, which reveal operational keys of tuning, through resonance, into the gigantic sphere of force of the Great Cosmic Powers which facilitate rapid and amazing transformations for those who apply them in their spiritual life.
On the occasion of the Maha Vidya Kali camp we were offered a secret modality for controlling the energy of time – dedicated to accelerate spiritual transformation; in the Maha Vidya Tara camp we were offered the Occult Law of Divine Miracles – how to attract within our being the Godly Miracles in which the Divine Grace directly manifests for helping certain beings or for supporting certain activities, projects and so on, while at the Maha Vidya Tripura Sundari activity we were offered the secret key to the accelerated awakening of the soul and to the opening of the Spiritual Heart through triggering God’s Active and Never hesitating Love….
Each of these activities amplified in my being an extended state of profound bewilderment, adoration, fascination, gratitude for the achievements offered by the Great Cosmic Powers in meditations, rituals, conferences or special initiations. At one point, the mind, overwhelmed by the grandeur of the Divine Mothers’ gigantic spheres of force, shyly raised a question – what more could follow, after such an EXCEPTIONAL thing…? And each time, the next Maha Vidya managed to show us another perspective – Cosmic, Perfect, Universal, Magnificent – specific to her sphere of force, which intoxicated our souls with another nuance of ecstasy, specific to her…
Preparing the Maha Vidya Bhuvaneshwari camp
It is in this way that we reached the moment for preparing the camp for deepening the communion with the Great Cosmic Power of Absolute Space and Essential Knowledge – Bhuvaneshwari! And, once again, everything was different from how it had been in other years – her specific energy impregnated all with her distinct fragrance already many months before the beginning of the activities, from the very moment when we were to think about the frame of the camp and even the space in which it could unfold. Thus, inspired and supported by the Divine Mother of All Worlds, Bhuvaneshwari, the activity dedicated to her took place in an exceptional space – the new conference center, Lux Divina, in Brasov and it became the very first spiritual action performed there – marking in this way the glorious beginning of this center dedicated to the blossoming of spirituality. The location is wonderful, the uniquely elegant halls are decorated with refined taste and, going beyond our expectations, we discovered that the size of the main conference hall is variable as it has the possibility to be divided in two with the help of a mobile separating wall. In this way we could freely unfold the polar activities of every morning. I will let the images talk of the beauty of this space and, implicitly, of the very special integration in which the entire Maha Vidya Bhuvaneshwari activity unfolded.
From the program of the Maha Vidya Bhuvaneshwari camp
In the first days, the program unfolded in a polar manner: – the men began very early in the morning (7-9) with two hours of Laya Yoga with the mantra of Bhuvaneshwari and then two more hours of delving into the masculine perspective of the adoration of this Great Cosmic Power on the tantric path.
The women had a Hatha Yoga program, integrated in the sphere of force of the Great Cosmic Power Bhuvaneshwari, together with a small ritual in the beginning and in the end, and then a meditation with the Bhuvaneshwari mantra/yantra and after that we had conferences about the concept of Shakti from the tantric perspective and the specific feminine way of relating to the Great Cosmic Power Bhuvaneshwari.
At the end of the polarity period we continued to perform together (both men and women who wished to do so) two hours of Laya Yoga meditation in the morning with the mantra of Bhuvaneshwari followed by 2 hours of asanas in polar couples.
Special rituals of adoring certain aspects of the Great Cosmic Power Bhuvaneshwari
This year there were chosen by our spiritual guide Grieg four women endowed with a special resonance with the Great Cosmic Power Bhuvaneshwari with whom we performed two tantric exercises of transfiguration and identification. Thus on Thursday 27th June we adored the aspect of Bhuvaneshwari known as Aditi and on Friday we worked with the distinct manifestations of the Great Cosmic Power of the Absolute Space in the three fundamental worlds: the physical, the astral and the causal.
The answer of the Cosmic Power to these collective actions of transfiguration and adoration was overwhelming for all of us who participated. For the aspect of Universal Divine Mother, Transcendent and Almighty (Aditi) we perceived gigantic waves of unconditional maternal love which continuously poured from the being of the chosen one and which filled us with a nourishing energy that is protective and full of an endless kindness:
On Friday, with the occasion of the exercise dedicated to the distinct manifestations of the Great Cosmic Power Bhuvaneshwari in the three worlds (the physical universe, astral universe and causal universe) we perceived the ecstatic and all-encompassing presence of the Divine Mother with specific nuances for the three levels – concrete, alive and full of life, in the physical plane; ethereal, aerial and fulfilling all dreams – as if woven from fantasies and in continuous transformation – in the astral plane; abstract and transcendent in the causal plane:
At the end of this exceptional ritual we did a meditation of synthesis with the three aspects of the Great Cosmic Power Bhuvaneshwari, while the three chosen women performed the mudras specific to the embodied aspects: the one corresponding to the physical plane did the sensual posture representing birth in a state of orgasm, the one corresponding to the astral plane did the gesture of blessing with her left hand and with the right hand the gesture of offering gifts – so that from her right palm flowed sweet milk for around 10 minutes – the milk being one of the main symbols of the Divine Mother; and the person chosen for the aspect of Bhuvaneshwari corresponding to the causal level embraced the entire public with some enormous, bright-shining wings. Here the ritual attained its peak and I saw tears of ecstatic happiness in the eyes of many colleagues for this moment which touched profound chords of their souls awakened by the Cosmic Force of the Absolute Space…
Exceptional unique experiences of translation into certain parallel levels
The night of the fairies
With Grieg’s guidance and support, in this camp there were scheduled three such translations into parallel worlds: the first one into the realm of the fairies – with the occasion of the Fairy day meditation on the 24th of June. We went out in the nature, on the peak of a high hill, on the road towards Brasov Glade, in a fairytale place, as if coming from the tales about fairies – a glade facing the sunset, surrounded by centennial oak trees and garnished with tall grass and … yellowweed flowers.
Caressed by the rays of the sunset, in the magical time when the skies are opening and the worlds are overlapping, we could perform the meditation of communion with the magical world of the fairies with their flowers braided into wreaths, held at the breast or in the hand, after which we previously savoured a mixture of medicinal herbs meant to amplify the resonance with their realm, in which the main ingrediant was the powder of dry flowers of yellowweed. Supported by Grieg and in unison with all our colleagues from all the countries which performed this meditation, we were provided with an extraordinary experience.
The 95 minutes of the meditation passed incredibly quickly, the perception of space and time was completely distorted, as if we had slid into a realm of dream, mystery and magic. This time I did not perceive so much the presence of the fairies, as distinct entities, but I clearly felt the ”realm” in which they manifest, I almost “concretely” felt how the ”texture” of that specific universe was, as if perceiving from the inside, directly how the air smells there, what tastes exist, how existence is experienced in that land … It was as an aerial dream, experienced with perfect lucidity – into which I projected myself into this parallel dimension, with all the senses awakened, intimately savouring its mystery…
Moreover, following an old Romanian tradition, we slept with yellowweed flowers under the cushion to dream our destiny, and, just like the previous year on the same occasion, I had a very clear, luminous and aerial dream in which I was present with many women as if at an astral feminine gathering full of exhilaration, joy and playfulness…
Projection into Hiranya Loka
The second translation was done by using secret elements about the inner portal received in the specific initiation offered on that occasion and it was directed towards the sublime astral dimension named Hiranya Lokha. Due to unfavourable weather we did not go out into the nature, but we stayed in the hall. This was the peak experience that I felt in this camp and one of the most powerful meditations which I’ve ever done! The state perceived touched me very profoundly as well as the intuitions I had on that occasion.
The activation of the inner portal was so clear and intensive that it lasted for hours in a row, as if an inner gate had opened right in front of me, through which I could penetrate, at will, into that space of an exceptional, unimaginable, crystal-like purity. The entire experience unfolded as an initiation into the mysteries of this realm of the highly evolved spiritual beings, the entrance into the respective realm being marked by the meeting with the ”guardian of the threshold” of that land, an egg-like entity of light, full of humour and compassion, who searched me with gentleness and then encouraged me to enter… In that realm I perceived supramental states of clarity and clairvoyance for which there are no words to describe it, and in the end there was a direct ”transfer” of information about that realm by the good will of the beings from there, of whom the ordinary mind has only kept the intuition that it was about the unmediated and supramental knowledge of the subtle structure of laws and principles which govern that realm…
The ritual of synthesis of the communion with the Great Cosmic Power Bhuvaneshwari
The third translation was performed during the final ritual of synthesis in the last evening. We integrated several of the elements which were offered at the special initiation for expanding the consciousness through ”recapturing in the center of the heart” – integrated in the sphere of force of the Great Cosmic Power Bhuvaneshwari, the inner portal and other elements.
For all three translations we used special medicinal herbal mixtures – taken 4 hours before – whose effect of impelling the experiences was considerably perceivable. On this occasion, as well, I perceived incredible state of sacredness and magic created by the unison effect and the integrated elements, the profound resonance with the Energy of Infinite Space, direct revelations regarding a type of mysterious knowledge, achieved through direct transfer and unbounded by mental concepts or by words, ecstatic states of melting into infinity…
Among many other synchronicities and divine signs which took place during this camp there was also a marvelous rainbow that appeared on the 25th of June around the moment of beginning of the conference with the theme: Revealing and centering in the secret space of the heart – daharakasha – the mysterious home of the Great Cosmic Power Bhuvaneshwari:
Special initiation offered by Grieg
In the last day of the activity we had the surprise of receiving also an exceptional initiation with novel elements revealed and explained for the first time for the ones chosen through a lottery consecrated to this Cosmic Force; an initiation which enables the deepening of the communion with the Great cosmic Power Bhuvaneshwari, appearing as a wonderful ”cherry on top of the cake” that is this Maha Vidya Camp.
Once more we wish to express our gratitude for the support of our colleagues from the Conference Center, Lux Divina, in Brasov for the kindness they showed and for the immense help they offered for organizing this event in their space, as well as to the colleagues in the organizing team from Constanta and Bucharest without whose aspiration to deepen the Maha Vidya path we wouldn’t even have these camps. But, above all, we are profoundly grateful to the Good God, the Great Cosmic Powers and to our spiritual guide Grieg for the exceptional spiritual gift represented by this camp for us all!
Instead of conclusion
Many days have passed since the gentle and protective embrace of the Divine Mother Bhuvaneshwari thrilled us all, enabling us to realize the fact that we are permanently comprised in her gigantic sphere of force, that is almighty and nourishing … Yet, even now, there are, alive in our hearts, glimpses of the intuition and ecstatic states which we experienced on that occasion, as well as the comprehensive perception which we had all the time, the one of the perfect superior integration of all the aspects of this activity, as if an invisible hand had arranged all the circumstances and events in the wisest possible manner!…

Silence loves me…
Sometimes silence is much more than just the absence of sound. Sometimes silence has it’s own life, a being, a spirit, a place to be. A beloved. Sometimes you just don’t talk – but sometimes silence starts talking back to you. It speaks from your heart, tells you who you really are, beyond all the words, beyond all the thoughts, beyond all your ideas about what to do in this life – it feels like it reminds you that you are much more than you think. You are not ever what you think you are.
Before I went to silent retreat with Natha Yoga Center on Stevns Klint, I was wondering what I would experience. If I would reach exciting states, if I would have a lot to tell afterwards, if it would change me. If I would get scared when I met the silence. When I met myself – the one that I really am.
My body reacted with symptoms of illness before the camp, and I was a little nervous – but also looking forward, I felt like I was going to meet a love done after a long time, after having missed him for a long time. I felt I would start a love relation with my own soul, after having been very focused on other people’s thoughts and opinions for my whole life, and on what to do to be good enough. I felt I would finally meet my own heart – but I didn’t realise how radical the consequences would be.
The frame for the retreat was that we were in mauna, where you don’t speak or communicate, during the camp, and that we had several hours of meditation every day, and tried to be as introvert as possible. That we would do something else than we usually do. We were in Stevns Naturcenter, which is placed in the most beautiful nature, with the sea almost just outside the door, and with tall trees, lots of birds, endless skies. The nights were blessed with stars and beauty. And the days were filled with the sound of the rain, the fragrance of the wet trees, and the longing for the sea. We were a lot of people there, but the point was to give us a possibility that elsewhere we would have to go to a cave in the Himalayas to find – that we could live so introvert and be so quiet inside that we could focus on our true nature.
In the first week, we worked on understanding who we are NOT – that we are not the mind, with it´s thoughts and feelings, but also that we are not the body. Vi had fantastic lectures where we heard how some of the great spiritual masters have travelled from an ordinary life to a life in Light – an enlightened life. We meditated on the words and teachings, and in this way their experiences built a foundation in us, and settled in us.
Before the camp, I was concerned if I could take it – if I would meet a lot of inner ghosts, that would scare me, or if I would suddenly begin talking or do other unconscious actions that would ruin the retreat for me. I was also afraid to produce beautiful experiences or inner images that would be more in the category ’astral dreams’ than real experiences of something more profound, something higher than the astral realm. I was afraid to stay in a svadhisthana-spirituality (Svadhisthana is the energy center in our being, that is connected to the erotic and creative energies, and to desire and the search for pleasure), where I would have pleasant experiences, that would satisfy my ego very much – but where I wouldn’t actually open towards God.
In the first days, I was very very blissful – I was happy to put all my social insecurities aside and to be allowed just to be in my own world, and in the night time I would lie in my bed and look at the stars in the sky and just feel… happy. And we learned how to de-identify regarding to all the things, we are not – and I understood, it was so obvious to me that I have never seen reality, only my own images of it, and these images come from the one I think I am. And who is strongly attached to prejudices, judging others and myself, a closed heart, lack of surrender, and always preoccupied with thoughts of either the future or the past. I was so ecstatic to see all this! It felt like being an innocent child, that can sit by the feet of God, and just be the one I am – and in full confidence and with trust in the heart give it all to Him, without any thoughts if He can and will help me – because He is omnipotent and He is Love! I felt no desire to keep anything to myself, hide anything – I just wanted to surrender it all to Him.
We learned some fantastic techniques to see how we identify with what we are not – and I was just so happy to see that I was not and am not all the nonsense, that haunts my mind.
We also learned about some of the cosmic powers, Mahavidya (In traditional tantrism, it is understood that God manifests through ten aspects, symbolized as ten goddesses, and they are called Mahavidya or the ten cosmic powers) and their special gifts of grace to the ones seeking Atman – the ones seeking the revelation of Reality. It was a true journey in joy and mystery, and I felt so blessed.
I also felt great irritation and anger – the slightest noise or disturbance from the others could make me extremely irritated and angry – and I watched my resonance to see if it would then dissolve. And I was angry with myself for not ’just’ opening my heart – and I saw how it became more and more difficult for me to surrender to the present moment. At the same time I was very happy to see this anger – because I learned that it cannot harm me, it cannot touch my soul, or Atman. I could see that the anger came from my mind, but also that no matter how much place it took on my inner ’screen’, I was still united with endless love. That was tremendously healing for me – because normally I run away from the feelings, I don’t like, for instance anger, jealousy or envy – but at the same time, I run away from all the people or situations, that could trigger these emotions, and trigger the risk to feel them, and then I lose so much. I shut off for love. And i learned that exactly the feelings, I find the most difficult to live with, can be the most wonderful and unexpected gate to unconditional love, to unity with all human beings, and to an open heart.
In the next part of the retreat it was time to go deeper in the meditations. I was very sleepy and tired, I was not able to sleep much at night, 3 -4 hours, and some of the meditations I just spent staying awake. But at the same time I had a feeling that now I had consecrated the meditations and received an answer, then also this was integrated and a part of the divine plan – and now, after the camp, I understand that I had to fully let go of my desire for spiritual experiences, so that God could hold me in His hands.
I understand that I had to come down on my knees and feel totally lost in order for Him to be allowed to have access to my being.
And sometimes in the meditations I surrendered so much, let so much go of all my ideas of what was supposed to happen now, and I just welcomed everything, totally relaxed – that I became witness, became heart, became Mother, became love, became Present Moment, became the one I really am.
There were states with no desires or identification with the mind, there were states of eternity and unity with All, there were states of deep peace – not as feelings, but as observations.
And I experienced that a lot of new nuances were available – it was as if the silence made it possible to perceive much more subtle nuances in reality – as if eternity and unity is hidden between all the phenomena, I know from my senses and perceptions.
I had wonderful moments with Grieg, our spiritual guide. One of the things that surprised me the most was experiencing how I stopped focusing on his words, his teachings, his physical appearance – and was allowed to see him as the one, he has always been and will always be. And I remembered the first time I came to the school for tantra class, and saw his picture, and was told that he was the one who had founded the school – and I kneeled before the picture and thanked him for giving me the possibility to go to this school and learn so many wonderful things. I didn’t know anything about what else he is at that time – I just felt a deep gratitude. In these moments in the camp where I experienced him beyond all appearances, beyond body, age, teaching, expression, I felt that he had found me in the middle of the ocean of people, and called me, and led me to this moment – and I knew that since he had loved me forever, then also I was eternal. And i knew that also I will reach enlightenment in the right moment, because I am in his hands and love – it can only turn out for the best! I felt so blessed, loved and full of gratitude – and full of trust. And that it is fantastic that I am exactly where I am now – for this is my starting point for my further journey.
Sometimes I experienced how everything I think I know, dissolved in front of me – and I had moments where I said goodbye to everything, I thought I knew, everything, that I thought that I loved. I said goodbye to parents, sister and brother, family, friends, ambitions, talents, dreams, attachments, pains, identifications, self-hatred – and there were moments of deep loneliness, because nothing was as I had always thought it was. But these moments transformed into deep bliss, when I saw that the deep pains that I have always carried, and thought I could never release – dissolved in front of me. I realised that the confirmation, I have always wanted from others, was in fact impossible to have – because other people don’t exist, I only see my image of them. The person, I see as X, is not X – I only see my image of him. I realised that when I am angry or jealous, it comes from things in my own mind, because I do not see reality – and therefore there is no reason to feel bad about it. I felt so many times that I chose to feel bad about things that are not real – because since I was never born and will never die, and since I never saw reality, but live in a hall of mirrors – than the state of Witness is the only true place to be. And that it is unrealistic to feel bad about anything – because the things I feel bad about, never happened, and they are not happening now either, and they will never happen.
The present moment is always sufficient and abundant and ecstatic – it contains all.
There was a special moment that I like to return to now afterwards, with hope and longing. I realised during the camps that I long so much for loving in perfect freedom and without conditions, like God – but also that I fear it deeply. Because if I didn’t, obviously I would already love in that way. But at one point I had a very strong experience of having a glimpse of how it will be to have a totally open heart – and how I through empathy would be able to heal others with no boundaries, let go of my own low resonances and set others free – and how I would be able to release their hearts. This moment is till very clear to me, as something I desire very much and deep in my being.
To be able to let go of the fear to love unconditionally, so I can reach that state of empathy.
When the retreat ended, I wanted to get home fast – I didn’t want to start talking to the other participants about our experiences, because I didn’t want my ego to cut this silence into small appropriate pieces, that might make me happy, but that would also be so interpreted by the ego that I would not be able to transform. I wanted to contain all the things I had learned inside, and not ejaculate it. And I wanted more silence. So I left in a hurry – but happy.
In these days after the camp, I have felt a great longing for meditating, and meditating for long periods, and for getting to know my heart even more, and getting to know it so well, that it will be a gate to the one I really am.
I have also felt that is is immensely much easier for me to center in the heart – and release any desire to center anywhere else. I feel a lot more self-confidence – I guess it did my Manipura (the energycenter or chakra connected to will power, self confidence and the ability to transform your life) well to show up for all the meditations, no matter if I was tired or ill. Anyway it has become easier for me to say what I see, and say what I think.
And I have a strong feeling that I am facing big changes in my life. My mind has no plans, but I can feel that my heart is strong and that it leads me – and I don’t really think about where it is going, I fully trust it will take me to the best position for both my and the world outside. Karma yoga (which is when you offer the karmic fruits of your actions, and your actions, to God, with love) has turned into a true joy for me, and even though my mind creates stress when I see how much I am supposed to do, then I also feel full confidence in my heart, and I see that time is shaping so I manage to overcome it all in magical ways, and that I have strength to do it. It is truly amazing to see – love in action.
I am deeply grateful for the retreat – I am so grateful for having shared those days with wonderful people, and many times during the meditations I saw all the beautiful souls that surrounded me with light, and I saw the angels supporting us, surrounding us with love and kindness. I feel immensely grateful to Grieg, and I love to feel him as the other half of my heart. I am deeply grateful for the possibility to love him so much more – I could not have received any better presents for Christmas. I also feel deep gratitude towards Natha Yoga Center – and I am still really amazed that it is possible for find so profound, transforming and authentic teaching in the middle of my Januarylife in Denmark – you know, I am just an ordinary human being. That it is possible for me to find teaching that leads me to the depths of my heart and to see glimpses of the Source – reality.
Silence became my Beloved during the retreat. I have always dreamt of obtaining inner peace – as long as I didn’t have to release my attachments, and if i could be allowed to be the same, if I could be allowed to ’sleep at the steering wheel’ in my life. I dreamt that God would make it so that it didn’t hurt that I was ignorant. But silence became my Beloved during the retreat – the silence, the neutral point within – and I feel I am flirting with life, with reality, and I see how the layers of reality and illusion mix, and I get seduced and fall in love with this game – also when it hurts. I take the response, but I don’t take it so personal.
I know I was never born and that I will never die – I don’t know this because somebody told me, but because I found it in my heart. By releasing all the things, I weren’t, and releasing all the things I wanted to be – and instead I was just a little fool, who was sitting trying to stay awake in meditation – but at the same time, I was One with the Supreme – in a magical way.
I look so much forward for meditating again! And for every moment of yoga, every moment of giving myself to others, every moment of what life is really about.
And every moment of resistance – for that is exactly where I meet the one, that I am not – and then the One, that Is forever, can be revealed.

A weekend gathering of yoga teachers, aspiring yoga teachers and newly graduated yoga teachers from all over the world
by Liliana Serban
Let’s suppose you have been practicing yoga for three, four or maybe even ten years ... After all those years you have achieved good health, inner peace, a higher level of consciousness…So what is next? What is the next step? What more could you wish to achieve?
For some students of Natha Yogacenter, Copenhagen, their spiritual dreams are more mature and responsible because they aim to become yoga teachers in order to share their knowledge with other people.
Very recently, from 10th to 13th November, 2011, Natha Yogacenter was the warm, open hearted host for three international events:
* Meeting of the teachers of the Atman International Federation of Yoga and Meditation
*Yoga teacher training course
*The graduation ceremony of the newest yoga teachers.
As you may already know, the Atman Federation is an international organization for yoga and meditation which includes yoga schools from all over the world: Europe, Asia, North and South America, and Africa. Once every 3 months, a meeting takes place between the representatives of all these schools, in which various teaching issues are discussed and the cooperation between the schools is improved. However, what took place on the weekend of 10-13 November was much more than this. This event saw a gathering of many teachers from the Federation, who spent a long weekend together in which they participated in collective spiritual actions, shared spiritual experiences, and attended seminars with the purpose to improve the level of teaching and to aid their continuous transformation. This event was a genuine meeting of the hearts, which by no coincidence took place in Natha’s ‘Concordia’ building (which is Latin for ‘with one heart’).
One could say the event was at the same time a successful and touching exchange of ideas, impressions, experiences and… affection.
Here are the titles of some of the lectures given over the weekend: ‘The state of divine relay for the sublime energies that God manifests through a charismatic and integrated teacher’, and ‘the spiritual ego and its causes, methods for eliminating it’.
Meanwhile, those aspiring to become yoga teachers participated in the meetings of the Atman International Yoga Teacher Training Course. This is an intensive course whose purpose is to produce yoga teachers of the highest caliber, who are capable of guiding their students on the path of spiritual transformation. Since a teacher mostly teaches through his/her own example by who he/she is, this course aims to help the aspirants to achieve a state of continuous transformation in their own being, since one cannot give what they do not have.
If some of you are curious to know what is necessary for a yoga student to become a yoga teacher, the answer is: at least 3 years of continuous, assiduous yoga practice. Once you have attained this then you can enroll for the Teacher Training Course, which lasts for 2 years. In this time, the aspirants meet every 2nd month for an intensive weekend of practical and theoretical teachings. These teachings include the in-depth study and practice of the techniques the teacher will teach, the deepening of the knowledge and understanding of the yoga theory and a great deal of supplementary information about the role of being a teacher, the teaching process and the tools that a teacher has. These weekends take place at Natha Yogacenter in Copenhagen, bringing together dozens of aspirants from all over Europe. The course includes a practical and theoretical exam at the end of the first year, and a final exam at the end of the 2nd year. A comprehensive one year assignment is also submitted at the final exam.
The weekend was also a joyous gathering of those aspirants who sat the final exam and handed in their projects a few months ago and were now awaiting the news of their graduation. These aspiring teachers gathered in Natha from all over Europe to participate in the graduation ceremony where they received their teaching diploma.
An emotional, very impressive and refined atmosphere characterized The GRADUATION CEREMONY.
Flowers, gifts, open hearts and, above all, the Divine Grace manifested in the most evident way during the special final meditation, the spiritual investiture of the new yoga teachers.
And of course every successful story ends with a party, which there was…. A very nice, sparkling one…
We all, the NATHA TEAM, wish great spiritual achievements of the highest level for all the new teachers and also for all the participants of these events.
We thank you, all of you!
Here are some interviews with some newly graduated yoga teachers
My name is Tomaso Portale and I am coming from Italy.
Q: How do you feel having this status yoga teacher?
A: I have this intuition from now it will be different because I realize I have a great responsibility. And I feel I have to prove I really worth this investment in front of God and in front of my spiritual guide Grieg.
Q: Why did you have this aspiration to be a yoga teacher?
A: Actually I in the past I was teaching tai chi and chi gong but now it is different. I am so deeply impressed about the spiritual vision of life receiving here at this yoga course so I feel de desire to share it to the others.
I am Delia Pinto and I am from Schwitzerland Lugano.
Q: How do you feel having this status yoga teacher?
A: It was a great honor for me. I consider that each of this kind of events is a lesson every of us have to learn. And it was a great manifestation of Divine Grace. I received a lot of grace and a lot of hope and aspiration. I felt was absolutely blessed in the meditation of investiture and it was also a confirmation of all responsibilities that I will have. That gives me a lot of courage to go into the next experiences and to achieve all the tasks I will have with happiness and joy.
Q: Why did you have this aspiration to be a yoga teacher?
A: I wanted to do something with love and open heart like a child always curious and always fresh and pure.

“The ego is the freedom of the mind to choose anything else than GOD”
- one of Mihai Stoian’s thoughts shared with us in this silent retreat.
I believe that only the Divine Grace was the one guiding me and making possible for me the Iceland Silent Retreat in January – February 2011.
First there was the state of longing for God after the Hiatus spiral in August in Costinesti, 2010, then, in the November Archangel’s Week, the mysterious benefic ‘obsession’ for the meditation music with Uriel Archangel and then, finally, my silent, but intensive request to God to participate in this retreat… and when I gave up on it – since it was impossible for me to imagine how could I get the money for affording this experience – and confessed this to my beloved, a miracle happened and it suddenly became possible that I, myself …could also be there… in my first silent retreat for revealing the divine essence, the immortal Self ATMAN. Indeed, if I were to follow what my mind was telling me I never have had this chance, but a simple inner request from the heart was triggering what I consider a true miracle for me.
Considering the spiritual results I have personally experienced in this retreat, I have to admit that this spiritual retreat was relatively easy: already the trip itself felt like a light vacation, my first breaths on the Icelandic shore in a state of an adolescent’s joy and happiness, the funny moments in the bus with the familiar and new faces, Mihai’s lucid enthusiasm for the Icelandic scenery, the electronic toy helicopter I took care of on the way, the taste of the rich in minerals water and of the ashram’s bread and soup and the entire atmosphere of the Icelandic yoga school reawakened something very pure and joyful inside, which reminded me of the times I was 12 and had just discovered with full enthusiasm Chopin, buying tape after tape with his crystalline music.
Neither the quite strict program of 6.5 hours meditation, nor the rule of total silence were too difficult for me and the experiences I’ve had in the third day and in the last day of the retreat have showed me very clearly that it is possible… what E.Tolle, Maharishi, Yogananda or Poonja described in their books are attainable and easier to attain then I thought, and the focus on this high goal is giving by far much more joy and ecstasy than anything else the world can give. I just couldn’t believe how - in my ten years of practicing in this yoga school - I tried almost all the types of Yoga,… except for this one… all those stories about how difficult these meditations were, now they are, in my vision, just bedtime stories for kids …
“After the Iceland Silent Retreat a very curious and cunning reporter approached a participant in the camp, asking him the first question: ‘who am I talking to?’; the student’s amazed gaze was pondering for a moment on a spot somehow behind the reporter’s microphone, then the calm answer came with the ingenuity of a revelation: ‘to me’ ”- the second spiritual joke inspired to Mihai towards the end of the camp.
The famous question ‘who am I?’ from Ramana Maharishi’s self-inquiry technique bears almost no meaning for the reader of his books unless doubled by the practice of centering in the heart. The seven steps technique in which we were gradually introduced, during the meditation program, had on me the effects of several revelations…first of all because my ideas about the heart and the soul were so abstract and far from my personal experience. From the short lectures we were presented I understood that essentially the concept of the heart as the center of everything that exists is a genuinely practical concept: I remember many years ago in my room I had a red old armchair in which I took a break sometimes, simply following a need of my being to stop for a moment in the middle of the very agitated emotional life I had in that period. There was one time, I clearly recall, when I simply felt a state of bliss – experienced as profound peace – just by stopping and relaxing with the eyes closed sitting on this armchair… Indeed, this experience of mine was an authentic centering in the heart which I did without knowing anything at that time about yoga. So, it became clear for me that I’ve already had some special moments in my life when the centering in the heart was there for short moments, but to find a simple practical method to recall and have that state at will is almost like dreaming about the Aladdin’s wonderful lamp from the One Thousand and One Nights fairy tale… still, and this was my first extraordinary revelation, with the right method, the adequate conditions created and a perseverant practice, the state of being in the heart can be attained now, by almost anyone who truly aspires to it.
Practically, the crystal clear exposure of the seven steps meditation technique had the role of protecting me from various traps, but even in these privileged conditions, the very clear guidance and the unison of aspiration with the fellow spiritual aspirants in this retreat, I still had to pass through my own tests until getting the first results.
The room bathed in blue light: “…the heart is the king … it is the secret mirror of God inside of us …it makes possible that we can really have what we have and to become what we really are…beginning with the awakened heart we can start evolving and we can reach true spiritual accomplishments…” - from the theory in the retreat
It is still just sterile theory to talk about the heart and is like in one of the short movies with Poonja we watched in the retreat, about the one who talks and doesn’t know, while the one who knows, doesn’t talk … still the very reality of the tests I had, suggests that also the seconds of awareness of my individual heart - I’ve had in the camp - were nonetheless authentic. The blockages in the neck area, unblocked after the first two days, the difficulties with finding the relaxed meditation posture and the triggered physical pain until finding it, the fights with the fluctuations of my mind during the meditations and the kind of an incapacity to believe and pessimism about my capacity to be in the heart, as if forever imprisoned in the mind’s schemes, are some of the shades imprinted in the room where I found rest between meditations and re-read Bhairavastava (the Kashmir Shivaism’s masterpiece poem about being in the heart with the divine) with more and more thirst. From my window I could see young fir trees and, in the evenings, after the blue light bathed the table and the bed, the vision of the warm-houses awakened in me the memory of Roerich’s paintings depicting in the snowy scenery realm of Shambala.
Solheimar, under the snow in the fifth day of the retreat was the magical place I had a walk to visit the green-houses and leave in the snow storm all my melancholy about the lost moments of this life in which I was not in the heart…but far from the essential nectar of the ‘king of my being’, the spiritual heart. There, behind the glass of the green-houses I found my little tree with lively remembrance of the true experience of the man who came back from clinical death - the heart awakening essential story watched in the 2010 Costinesti summer yoga camp about the voyage to God’s heavenly realm of a man who found in a room, there, in God’s heaven the small tree representing the sum of the good deeds he did during his life time. This impressive moment of his story was the subject of my identification, while looking through the windows of the green house and choosing my own little plant…’my tree’.
And yes, in the third day I also had the grace of three seconds of centering in the heart continually and profoundly and the stunning effects are still amazing me: first of all I suddenly remembered in a new light some decisions I took not from the heart in the past, I saw the moment like from above, having a complete perspective… and as if burning that karma of ignorance about the hearts’ solutions, I found myself again in the middle of the warm flow of love which showed me the right solution; simultaneously with these clarifying recollections I felt an inner state of verticality as a renewal of all my masculine essence… reconfiguring my self-transfiguration to the highest extent and giving back to me the freshness of all my purest aspirations. What was really shockingly real and incredible was the speed of few seconds in which I found a renewed inner strength which I haven’t even slightly guessed it existed inside of me. Together with this integrating perspective and refreshed virility I also felt vaguely how is that state in which one knows everything, the past and the future, being centered in the axis of the present moment. After these astonishing states I started to gain an inner happiness which was increasing gradually until the end of the retreat culminating in the last day.
Ideal conditions for the ones aiming to the highest accomplishment on the ‘fast-lane’: NOW and HERE.
It is not any more a mere juicy spiritual saying for us (those participating in this retreat) the expression ‘here and now’. It’s became as practical this expression as the asana-s for a first year yoga student. As Mihai Stoian - our guide in this inner spiritual adventure – called this type of spiritual experience we’ve had: “the perpendicular spiritual practice”, is the one aiming straightly to the highest goal, without wandering in the almost endless stages on the horizontal plane, but taking the bold turning on the vertical axis, directly aiming towards the divine. It is ”a different quality of experience” as he puts it, and it can hardly be compared with anything else in the vast domain of possible horizontal spiritual practices. If, for instance on the tantric path one might have Tantra retreat 1 followed by a new theme, or new initiations in Tantra retreat 2 and so on until Tantra retreat ‘n’, the silent retreat for revealing the Self can only be repeated and continually remembered since it brings us back to the same divine axis within us, which is immobile, unchangeable and springing from the eternity of the very origins of the universe. These camps are analogically speaking like practicing alpinism to the highest peak on the most direct path, the shortest and most efficient side of the mountain.
Also Camelia’s perceptions about the divine entities of light guiding us from the invisible realms here in the camp were significantly highlighting that - what we’ve experienced in Solheimar this year - it was authentic and highly significant for our transformation.
Here I must admit that I’ve never imagined that this kind of retreat in the same space together with others can contain so much depth and authenticity. The rules of the camp clearly stated that we are supposed to be silent at all times and not to look to the others, but live inside of our own sphere as if we were alone in an individual retreat. For me these were relatively easy to be done by imagining that I am in God’s presence; so the only presence I have to take care of is God. And this way of acting brought good results for me…. Still, while living in the same room with my room mate some clarifications and purifications also appeared and I realized that they were not by coincidence catalyzed by my roommate’s presence: the funniest example to this effect was about his wake up alarm singing a song which was hunting me until the end of the camp; until, in the last night I had a releasing dream in which he was acting in a comedy triggering my strongest laughter in this life time …in a dream…thus any melancholic tendency was like burnt away in the fire of this brotherly communion through laughter.
A key element for remembering a special spiritual state, revealed here Mihai, is to recreate the same conditions in which that special state appeared for the first time…but what were the ideal conditions offered to us by Iceland?
The cool temperature which is excellent for meditation, the pure elements of nature specific to the subtle atmosphere of Iceland, the common aspiration of the spiritual group, and mostly and firstly the warm hearted hosting of the Icelandic yogis and here the gallery of angels taking care of us is enlarged with the volunteers who offered to organize the camp, administrate all the practical details and cook for us every day out of their immense generosity of the heart: especially Magdalena, Serafim and Natha Iceland volunteers, Adam and the others deserve all our gratefulness, since without their initiative and sacrifice these ideal conditions hadn’t been possible to be met.
The Satsang in Natha Iceland Reykjavik: protect your ‘candle light’ not only while meditating and being in a protective environment, but also while walking on the street in the springtime sunshine of the joyful states or the snow storm of the hard to control karmic events, be like those who manage this on and on in all the life situations even in the most intensive ones, the rare, spiritually liberated beings – ideas from the conclusive talk of the retreat.
For me in this spiritual retreat the difference between the astonishing third day’s glimpses of awareness on my heart’s depths and the camp’s final day personal success, is between the lucky luke’s unconscious lucky strike (the third day) and the consciously built up ability to maintain continually for a longer time the focus on the divine essence within. Now only for very few minutes and then to more minutes in a row while having continuity - breaking out of the few minutes short cycles - given by the presence of the silent witness perceived by me in the source of super human perseverance and steadiness in the focus.
The closing moments of the camp, the meditation of gratitude, sharing, the last snowy images around the pond with the colored fish, the taste of the fresh and crispy bread in the hall where smiling people are talking and joking about the weather in a detached way … and the underlying state of surrendering to God’s Will in all the details of our departure. Closing the door of the meditation building, returning the keys and looking from the left side at Solheimar – the home of the Sun, the already familiar holiday houses and the green-houses always bathed with light… the growing happiness rising like the Sun on the faces and silence accompanying the pause between two words… the fragility of our souls’ refined movements, breathing in unison with the yellow bus, crossing through the Icelandic scenery towards Reykjavik.
The Natha Iceland Yogacenter is the playground of the final stage of the inner adventure I wanted to depict.
Our loving and hospitable hosts preparing the Sunday evening Satsang with Mihai; beautifully arranged living room and yoga halls. An atmosphere of warm communication naturally starts to grow while waiting for Serafim’s intro words. All is unexpectedly unfolding and everyone’s curiosity about the Icelandic yogis and about us is fulfilled in a smart and funny way during the self-introductory round. A kind of a refined magic field of sharing is spread all around like in the heart to heart spiritual sharing of the best kind. Unexpected connections are opening new subjects from the topic of least importance of which year of yoga is one, to the silent retreat which is meeting here the Icelandic school’s students; then the questions are pointing more and more towards the now and here; from the highest essence of the national souls, the exceptional value of the meditations with the national soul to which one belongs; the Icelandic soul; Mihai’s answer to this question unveiling the exceptional creativity of the Icelandic soul in its contact with the primordial natural forces; the present-day situation of the creativity and how can it be integrated in the divine perspective; all these in a curiosity and affinity awakening manner of the great spiritual feasts in the end of a triumphant spiritual accomplishment.
The earth’s mountainous ribs are reflected in me like waves on a still lake, while gazing out of the plane’s little window and even the amazement in front of the white cloud’s stony realm is more silent in me than other times. The practice of the technique starts from the airport so that the noises don’t come so hurtfully towards me. Just the wish to be alone and meditate and the thought about the example with the ‘candle light’ - given in the retreat and representing the awakened heart towards the depths of the Divine Immortal Self ATMAN – to be taken care of in the storms of the daily life with all its unexpected turning points.
I wish to all of you to always manage to maintain the centering in the heart so profoundly that its bright light awakens completely not only your candle, but also others’ heart candle light. And I Thank to God, to Grieg, my spiritual guide, to Mihai, my spiritual teacher, Magdalena and Serafim, our caring mother and father in this retreat, the Icelandic yoga students and to all of you who participated, for your love and aspiration which altogether made possible, also for me, the very valuable spiritual experience of the 2011 silent retreat in Iceland,

By Yoga profesor Gregorian Bivolaru
Offered by Gregorian Bivolaru to all women within the yoga schools of the Atman Federation of Yoga and Meditation on the 8th of March.
Women should become more aware of their role now more than ever, especially on this universal day when we celebrate the Eternal Feminine. Their role is manifested in an ineffable way within man’s creative dynamism. Those women especially, who have awakened the state of SHAKTI should make enthusiastic, sustained and adequate efforts in order to awaken in as many women as possible (and quickly) the divine nature, the Sacred Feminine which lies within them, just like the Sleeping Beauty.
More and more women should become fully aware that they have, in a potential state, in their inner universe (the microcosm of their being) all the energies, all the aspects they need to create a mysterious, profound and overwhelming connection with MAHASHAKTI. For this they need to realize and to be totally convinced that “ WHAT EXISTS IN THEIR INNER UNIVERSE, EXISTS ALSO EVERYWHERE IN THE ENTIRE MACROCOSM, AND WHAT IS NOT PRESENT IN THEIR INNER UNIVERSE, DOES NOT EXIST ANYWHERE IN THE ENTIRE MACROCOSM”.
Moreover, all women should be aware that in reality their being and body are constitutive parts of MAHASHAKTI’S immense being and body. Kundalini Shakti which is always present (in a latent or active state) inside every woman’s body, stays as the mysterious messenger of MAHASHAKTI. From the moment that many women will transcend the veil of the millenary hypnosis, which forces them to indulge in a state of lethargic obedience and convinces them of their pseudo mental inferiority, they will be able to create, in a state of creative collaboration with men, a richer and better world through the feminine values.
At the level of the entire macrocosm MAHASHAKTI manifests and states the greatness of the Creative Feminine Principle of the woman. Even when she is still not aware, the woman is and remains a privileged messenger of MAHASHAKTI. Every woman who is totally awakened is at the same time a mysterious personification of Mother Nature. A woman should never forget that through her, the Feminine Nature is the one that initiates the man and she should be aware of the fact that the man is not the one who teaches Nature. Consequently there is a stringent necessity that all women who are intuitively aware of these secret aspects, should wake up and then act in order to discover in a profound and ample way possible their noble origin. As many women as possible should make adequate efforts and be full of aspiration to manifest in an exemplary way the power of MAHASHAKTI. Acting in this way, those rare women who will awaken, totally and profoundly in their inner universe the state of Shakti, will be able to awaken at the same time, the fundamental divine knowledge offered to them through MAHASHAKTI.
An important announcement regarding a Divine Gift which will be offered to those Women who are ready to discover the Overwhelming and Mysterious Reality of Mahashakti
We announce those of you who wish to have access to a particular secret initiation which you deserve (only those of you who are ready for it), that you will be able to benefit very soon (with no costs), within an unite group, from specific millenary revelations which are contained in a very old oriental text called Maha Shakti Darshana Tantra. In this way only those of you who will deserve, will be able to know (in order to practice them) specific fundamental mysteries which belong to MAHASHAKTI. They will help you open entirely your being and soul so that you can discover HER in an ineffable and grand way everywhere around you, She is the one who in Christianity is the Holy Spirit and – at the same time for those initiated – the Great Mother (MAHASHAKTI) whose super gigantic Maha Yoni gave birth to the Macrocosm (which contains three worlds: physical, astral and causal). Both the woman’s and the man’s inner universe have Mahashakti present through the mysterious feminine energy - Kundalini Shakti. When a woman manages to awaken as much as possible this mysterious energy – kundalini, she can come in contact with Maha Shakti. When we experience intense, profound and overwhelming states of cosmic orgasm, we also feel the mysterious and secret presence of Maha Shakti. Each state of prolonged and profound orgasm which women are capable of experiencing spontaneously, reveals in an intuitive, ecstatic way the all-inclusive presence of Maha Shakti and it makes us experience the state of divine bliss (Ananda). In this way, through the state of divine bliss (Ananda), which is revealed to us during specific states of divine orgasm, it becomes possible for us to discover simultaneously the pure existence of God the Father (Sat) and His pure divine consciousness (Cit). It is obvious that all these are possible only for those human beings who make love based on mutual love and apply in the game of love-making, full sexual continence, transfiguration and consecration of the fruits to God the Father. In this way it becomes possible for us to live and discover every time, during our ecstatic amorous games, God’s fundamental reality which is known to the wise ones as SAT-CIT-ANANDA.
The admission to this initiation will be based on a selection which is going to be announced shortly.
We know that in the Christian tradition the presence of Maha Shakti is the enigmatic reality of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit or Maha Shakti is in fact, in eternity, the eternal feminine power, invisible and mysterious of the Perfect Eternal Feminine. It also represents in the Christian tradition an essential and secret symbol. The Holy Spirit or Maha Shakti is in Its essence, the manifestation of an intelligent, extraordinary and mysterious feminine force, which embraces always the whole of God’s creation. Maha Shakti or the Holy Spirit is both the invisible and the extraordinary powerful feminine force of the wind, the mystery of feminine vitality, the external feminine force which supports and transforms everything within God’s creation.
When we contemplate God’s creation and its manifestation, we can say that beyond appearances, they are all expressions of the divine feminine energy or, in other words all these are facets of the PERFECT ETERNAL FEMININE. The Holy Spirit or Maha Shakti makes possible in a secret way the relationships between human beings (men and women) and God. Maha Shakti is the embracing Spirit of God. Maha Shakti or the Holy Spirit suggests to us a secret distinction between natural and supernatural. The Holy Spirit of God or Maha Shakti has been conceived with a terrible and all-inclusive supernatural feminine power (which is under the authority of God the Father) and which exercises its force only towards beneficial and divine actions.
Many initiated people and wise ones based their claimed authority upon special overwhelming manifestations of the Holy Spirit or Maha Shakti which has been revealing itself within the universe of human beings (men and women) through some ecstatic and overwhelming states. In this distinction one can easily notice the sublime and uplifting role which divinely inspired music has in the stimulation of ecstasy and inspiration, especially in the women’s case. The most striking is the confession of the Biblical prophets who based their divine inspiration on Maha Shakti’s presence. The Holy Spirit or Mahashakti is often indentified in manifestation with divine ecstatic states (in Israel, but also in other religions of the East). The secret role of the Holy Spirit or Maha Shakti has been often reaffirmed as being a source of inspiration for prophecies.
The idea that God is present in the universe of our being through the Holy Spirit or Maha Shakti is expressed in Psalms. Considering this fundamental idea that the Holy spirit or Maha Shakti is the mysterious spirit of God, who is always without exception holy and good, one can say that the Holy Spirit or Mahashakti has an intermediate role. This is why the prophets named it Spirit or Maha Shakti – “The Holy Spirit of God”. Sometimes they called it “The Good Spirit of God” and in fact this Holy Spirit is nothing else but Mahashakti, the perfect eternal feminine and enigmatic, through whom God’s creation has been manifested
Times New RomanThe gifts of the Holy Spirit or Mahashakti mark the beginning of a divine life for both men and women. In the Acts of the Apostles, the overwhelming out pouring of the Holy Spirit or Maha Shakti during Rusalii was the privileged moment when Jesus’ disciples felt when their totally divine faith began. The promise of the Gospels for the first seekers of God is concentrated on the Holy Spirit or Maha Shakti and in other situations, receiving the Holy Spirit or Maha Shakti is considered to be a crucial fact which indicates the acceptance of all aspirants (who are full of excitement),both men and women, by God.
In disciple Paul’s writings, the Holy Spirit’s gift or Maha Shakti, is considered to be the beginning of divine experience. In other words, a human being (man or woman) can belong to God, only if Holy Spirit or Maha Shakti manifests totally within her/him. The human being can only be united with God through the Holy Spirit or Maha Shakti; they cannot benefit from the communion with God without being connected to the Holy Spirit or Maha Shakti.
In disciple John’s writings, the Holy Spirit or Maha Shakti is the enigmatic feminine power who gives birth again, because Holy spirit is the mysterious life giver, just like a river which flows from God and gives a new and rich spiritual life to men and women who come and believe in Him. According to disciple John, the Holy Spirit or Maha Shakti is the feminine breath of life of God’s creation. He considers that the presence of the Holy Spirit or Maha Shakti is life’s indescribable proof. The first Christians believed that the Holy Spirit or Maha Shakti was a divine feminine power which was manifested through its multiple and profound effects upon any woman and man’s life who received the Holy Spirit. The impact of Maha Shakti or Holy Spirit has never created doubts regarding the extraordinary, profound and significant transformation which happened shortly after that, within human beings (women or men) through divine action.
It is interesting that disciple Paul asks Christians to remember always the first time, the moment of the beginning when they felt the overwhelming and indescribable manifestation of Maha Shakti or the Holy Spirit. For some, the overwhelming manifestation of Maha Shakti or the Holy Spirit has been and remained an overwhelming experience of God’s love; for others it was an experience of the ineffable divine enlightenment or divine liberation. The Holy Spirit or Maha Shakti has always made possible many spiritual and moral transformations. The Holy Spirit or Maha Shakti pours in every woman, especially, but in men also, various spiritual gifts. This is why this overwhelming outpouring of the Holy Spirit or Maha Shakti can be emphasized as a fundamental feature of any Christian. It is often possible that the Holy Spirit or Maha Shakti which is manifested, to be unseen but its presence felt and easily detected. The human being within whom it is fully manifested the Holy Spirit or Maha Shakti, does not depend on this world anymore and its standards in order to find an aim or a profound, overwhelming and divine satisfaction.
A meditation on the mysterious presence of Maha Shakti in maifestation (the eternal feminine, embracing and omnipresent)
Only those who are initiated and also women who reached a certain level of wisdom through the awakening in their inner universe of the state of Shakti, have the intuition, feel and are always aware of the fact that Maha Shakti (the perfect eternal feminine) is present in its hypostasis of Great Mother and when so many of us talk about Mother Nature we actually refer to the mysterious presence of Maha Shakti (the perfect eternal feminine). Through the extraordinary power which God the Father offers to Her, Maha Shakti is, in a significant way, almighty and she exists in eternity, as the feminine counterpart of God the Father.
When we look at the manifestation on this planet - through Maha Shakti’s eyes we can ask ourselves: what is that we call wisdom of this world and also of science, which is considered to be madness in comparison to perfect, embracing and eternal wisdom of God? What are all the inventions of human beings, all the cities with skyscrapers which lie (not by chance) as close to the desert? What are all the terrible weapons which these pervert people use to either ‘protect’ their so-called conquests or to perpetuate their empires full of perversity and rottenness (a significant example is USA)?
We have to be aware of the fact that all these will only turn into ashes in the future when they will be dust and powder and brought to their initial state by the great, mysterious feminine forces of nature which, sooner or later, will make everything return to their initial shape and, in this way, it will make them re-enter their primitive composition. That is when many cities which are dominated by skyscrapers will be completely cleared of those human beings who live there, or when those cannons and guns which are placed in the so-called strategic zones, will be abandoned and, after a while, grass and rust will invade the concrete, pavement will become powder and rust will inevitably eat what before was considered to be very hard steel.
It is worth looking back at the vast loneliness which is now ruined, but used to be populated by some very powerful cities at that point. Lets pay attention to the fact that – and it is not at all a coincidence, but a mysterious necessity- there are only ruins left today and the more the mysterious and omnipresent energy of time embraces and crushes them, the more they will be worn by the energy of time and in the end they will turn into ashes, they will merge with the earth, which will become virgin, and thus, a cyclical eternal return will appear soon.
It is good when we find ourselves in a place covered by the desolate ruins of an old city, to ponder, looking through Maha Shakti’s eyes (perfect eternal feminine). What was the purpose and did it matter that so many people once lived and had various superficial, ephemeral, full of illusion experiences in these places? What happened with the great majority of women and men who lived here during those times? When each one of those human beings passed away in order to leave this planet forever, their life in this physical world suddenly stopped and, immediately after, their breath froze. After that they disappeared forever from this world and now they are not at all on this planet in the way they used to be. Stop and pay attention because all that existed once will be again and again and the law of the eternal return of times will ineluctably and inexorably work in the same way it did for the desolate ruins we contemplate today, in some places on this planet.
In those times which are in the future now, the sons of the earth who will deserve to be here, will take hold of this planet and then the sublime, divine time of the past will come back, just like Apocalypse’s text shows. Beware that all these are inevitable and all prophecies inspired by God which exist in the Apocalypse, but also in other texts, predict that, eventually all these will reappear inevitably, just like we tried to explain in a certain way (addressing them to your intuition). When we face chaos and confusion in which this materialistic world drowns, Maha Shakti’s mysterious wisdom inspires us in the moment we are opened enough, makes us experience the perfect eternal feminine in a profound, grand and overwhelming way in our being, like an enigmatic source, always alive and regenerating.
Aphorisms and Thoughts
• The human being who lives in a larval state ignores his/her own defects and cannot discover, look and admire the exceptional qualities of anyone else. This kind of human being is not only ignoring his/her own defects, but also those wonderful features of someone else. She/he cannot get rid of her/his own defects because she is not capable of recognizing them. Also, she is not able to observe or reach the level of the others’ qualities because she/he is initially not capable to discover and analyze them.
• How is it possible that beauty and wonders, which are latent in other people and which we admire, can be transmitted through the eyes full of delight of the admirer in his/her being, in order to enrich him/her being in this way with new treasures of beauty which he himself discovered? The human being who reached a high level of wisdom knows already that only God the Father is always perfectly wise and in the same time knows that He is the only one who knows all forever. Understanding this aspect as it should be, even the greatest wise man continues to learn everyday so that he increases the treasure of his wisdom. This is why his type of wise man has always at his disposal two mirrors. In the first one he will see with a lot of lucidity and detachment even the smallest defect or possible flaws which are still persisting, in the smallest quantity, in his being. He strives to fix them as fast as possible. By acting in this way, the wise one preserves unaltered his modesty and humility. In the second mirror which he has he will contemplate with great delight and admiration not only the qualities, but also the virtues, together with all that is extraordinary in all human beings he comes in contact. Then the wise one does anything in his power, based on the example he is given, in order to integrate and awaken as soon as possible in his being everything that is good, beautiful and extraordinary. In this way he transforms fast through relentlessly assimilation and awakens through empathy and identification everything that is beautiful, good and extraordinary in the nature of all human beings he encounters. In this way the wise one makes secure and fast steps towards fulfillment. He continues to learn even when those obtuse and stuff in their sufficiency think that there is nothing else to learn and assimilate in their inner world.
A special comment:
In the case of those human beings who had the chance to benefit from the secret teachings of SHIVA which are contained in the secret tantric treatise GUPTA KAMA BHAIRAVA TANTRA, they can understand when it comes to this aphorism, how it is possible to assimilate and easily awaken the qualities, virtues and exceptional features of other human beings. By having an intimate connection with these human beings one can enjoy with happiness and frenzy, in a transfigured way the golden elixir (MEHASAMRITA) after the amorous fusion. In this way it becomes very easy to awaken and galvanize in our inner universe the qualities, virtues and all that is wonderful or extraordinary in the adored human being. This is how it becomes possible for those initiated to have always at their disposal a secret and privileged technique which helps them assimilate and awaken in their inner universe all the qualities and virtues of the beloved.
• Human beings who love intensely, profoundly and without limits look at the faces and bodies of those they love in a transfigured way and full of admiration. When they look at other human beings in this state, they are capable to discover in both, the features of the faces and the characteristics of the bodies, the qualities and extraordinary potential, or the latent virtues present in their entire being. They identify themselves with these qualities and extraordinary features when they empathize with the loved ones and in this way it becomes possible for them to transfer in their inner universe the valuable seeds of those qualities and exceptional features. Thus, looking with love, transfiguration and admiration at the faces and bodies of the loved ones (of the opposite sex), this creative and fruitful contemplation will awaken in the inner universe these qualities and exceptional talents, which sometimes can be in a latent state. If we understand these secret aspects presented here, we can realize that all these transformations become possible when we use the divine energy of love. As soon as we feel a real state of admiration and manage to feel this love for a human being with some exceptional qualities and talents, it becomes easy to transfer in our own inner universe, through duplication, or in other words through a sui generis graft, everything that the respective human being manifests and sets off in our being a profound state of sympathy, admiration, provoking thus love and making it increase in order to experience a state of adoration.
• A critical mean look of a human being who judges in a superficial/mean way all the time discovers immediately even the tiniest defect which exists in the human beings he sees. In the case when these human beings do not really have defects, this kind of critical, superficial and mean vision will soon project, through the game of uncontrolled imagination (on those human beings), all the defects and vices which already belong to that being. After that, this type of human being reaches a level where she/he strongly believes that the other person she/he has in front of her/his eyes, really has these defects which were projected in a mean and non-transfigured way onto her/him. We can easily notice that in these situations, this type of human being slides into a sui generis vicious circle from which she cannot easily escape. We should not be surprised by the fact that where the critical opinion discovers very fast the tiniest defect, the one full of admiration, full of love and transfiguration and delight sees none.
Meditating on these aspects which are present in some ignorant human beings and unconscious, we can realize what are the disadvantages of a critical, mean, superficial and accusatory judgment.
- (Legal and Media Cases)
After 5 days in court, the deliberations of the case of the ownership of Bhoga are concluded, pending decision by the court.
Upon following the testimonies and declarations from both sides, one can notice a significant phenomenon: while Natha's team has focused upon presenting it’s case for the right of ownership over the farm (Bhoga), Kim Schmock focused most of all on attacking Natha and Mihai Stoian (as the coordinating teacher) – trying to depict it as a sect. This is alike 2 people debating over what day it is: one says ‘its Wednesday’ and the other argues ‘you’re ugly’.
It should be mentioned that the judge has specifically asked that the parties will only focus upon the juridical aspect. Therefore, the team which represented Natha in this trial decided to focus only on the juridical arguments and did not mention the long list of harassments, threats and physical attacks from Kim against the Bhoga spiritual community, its individual members and against Natha. Natha has tried to keep a correct and responsible trial and avoided bringing up Kim’s violent behavior, knowing that it would damage his reputation severely. Unfortunately, Kim and his tiny group of colleagues did not share this attitude. Instead, they focused almost entirely on attacking Natha, trying to present it as a sect, hardly even approaching the actual matter of ownership of the farm. This is a very cheap strategy which shows that Kim doesn’t have good arguments. He therefore prefers simply to attack Natha since it’s much easier to destroy a reputation then it is to build one when you lack proof. The goal was obviously to play upon the innate fear that people have today of being manipulated and abused by sects – trying in this way to influence the Judge's emotional opinion upon Natha's stand.
For this purpose, Kim “produced” as witnesses 3 former members of the school who had personal grudges against Mihai Stoian. It is well known that these 3 people have over the last two years, and out of vindictiveness, been spreading lies and gossips about him and about the school in the social environment and even in the media. It is significant to note that they had absolutely no proof for any of their claims, accept for their word – thus being no more than gossip which has no place as evidence in a court of law, beyond being irrelevant to the case. In fact, should they have tried to sue Natha or Mihai for their complaints, they would certainly lose, as they had no proof and there are so many witnesses to testify to the contrary. Yet in this case, their imaginary complaints were not the subject of the trial and therefore Natha did not bother to produce witnesses to refute them. And so, the Helsingør court of law became the stage on which the good name of Natha and its members were smeared by vicious gossip invented by a tiny handful of resentful people who had nothing to add to the actual case at hand. Should Kim win the trial, it would signify the victory of prejudice and lies without proof over logic and evidence.
This strange strategy embraced by Kim's team might make one wonder: since one of the witnesses, Karsten Brask Fischer (known in Jyllands Posten and other papers as ‘Jesper’) is pretending to be an exponent of the democratic theory, how can he come with an argument like this in an ownership trial? What he tried to prove was that Natha is a sect and doesn't know a democratic way. But as an exercise of democratic thinking, what is the point in proving Natha as a sect in this ownership case? Is a sect not allowed to benefit from the justice as anyone else in a democratic system? Can a sect be cheated without problems and without juridical consequences? The logic of this kind of argument is typical to xenophobic extremists and not to people that are used with democratic rules.
Unmoved by this vicious and degrading strategy, Natha's team presented a clear-cut and common sense case, supported by sound evidence: Kim was only the front man in the buying of the farm while it was abundantly clear from the initial deal that the farm was Natha’s, Kim’s name on the papers being only a formality for the time being, until it will be transferred to Natha. Kim has made this commitment completely clear both in writing and in speech on many occasions, which dozens of people were testifying for now in the court or on their written and signed declarations. On the basis of this commitment, Natha has invested a great amount of money, and over a hundred persons – members and friends of Natha – have volunteered their services dedicating more than 20,000 working hours all for extensive renovations and improvements in the farm, increasing its value and functionality to what it is today. These people and Natha have done so only because they knew that it was belonging to Natha and the purpose of their voluntary work was to turn the farm into a spiritual community where students from Natha can live and practice spirituality together – also in large camps, guided by the teachings of Natha. Kim was involved in all these actions, and well aware of the common knowledge of the purpose of the farm and its ownership, he confirmed it on many occasions and by no means ever said anything to contradict it (until much after the work was done). Kim’s own contribution was only 130,000 kr. which he had put for the down payment.
Going over Kim’s testimony his response to these proofs is evident: on each count he either says that he doesn’t remember (he stated this on several accounts!) or he denies it – yet Natha has presented a dozen witnesses to confirm every statement and could easily put forward dozens more, should the time of the court would have allowed it. The attentive reader will rightfully ask: how come Kim doesn't remember important moments which prove him wrong and yet he “remembers” with complete certainty that he has the right to own the farm?
What was striking in the court was also to notice the difference in attitude and quality of the witnesses. The witnesses from Natha had nothing to gain, unlike Kim, who stands to gain a profit of millions of dk crowns from selling the farm – the fruit of the work of countless people from Natha, who united for the sake of the vision of creating a spiritual community. These witnesses were relaxed regarding the possibility of winning the ownership, being motivated by affirming the principle of Justice. Of the many witnesses on behalf of Natha some were not even friends of Mihai or Natha, they were former students as well as people that were never attending any courses in Natha. On the other side we find few people that were all having a personal problem with Mihai.
Let’s have a look now at what are the arguments that Kim brings forth with the help of his 3 witnesses: Karsten Brask Fischer, Celia Clausen and Michael Eriksson – all of them former students with personal resentments against Mihai:
1. Kim claimed that Bhoga could not belong to Natha, since, according to him, Natha could not afford owning Bhoga. This argument, beyond being irrelevant is also ridiculous, considering that Natha invested significant amounts of money in the Bhoga property – around 1,8 millions kroner in 5 years – and furthermore hold the entire economical responsibility of the place, providing all the resources for mortgage, energy consumption, maintenance and building developments (2,2 millions kroner). Beside that, active and responsible members of Natha control a foundation (Prema Fonden) which owns two significant properties in Copenhagen facilitating Natha Yogacenter and ashram community.
2. Karsten claimed that Natha cannot own Bhoga, and no contract with it is valid, since, according to him, it did not exist legally at the time – not having legal registration. This is pure disinformation. Natha has existed as an association since 1993, registered according to law and fulfilling all the legal requirements. The proofs presented and the witness of former chairmans of the organization were very conclusive in this respect.
3. As we have said earlier, the main argument by Kim and his handful of witness is that Natha is a sect in which all the members are manipulated by the leader and their wills are subordinated to his. Therefore even if Kim had made a commitment to Natha and its members, it was under manipulation and therefore not valid. Here the attentive reader may ask: if Kim says he didn’t make any commitment to give the farm to Natha, then how can he say that the commitment (which he claims he didn’t make) was under manipulation? Furthermore, this argument is meaningless – implying that people are free of responsibility for any of their actions, if they only claim that ‘they were influenced’. Should this argument win in court it would mean a danger to our entire society, which is based upon people assuming in a mature way responsibility over their actions. What about the enormous contribution by the many people who helped build Bhoga? Will that be taken away from them just because Kim will be relieved of his promises because he screams ‘sect! sect!’?
Moreover, accusing Natha as being a sect is a very serious accusation – which requires proof. No such proof was provided. Karsten Brask Fischer claimed to be an expert of sects and thus judges Natha as such, yet he has no expertise in the matter what so ever. We may ask – how many articles has he published about sects, if he indeed is an expert? On the other hand, the most renowned Swedish expert on sects, rev. Karl-Erik Nylund, whom the Swedish high court occasionally call upon for consul on such matters, concluded categorically that Natha is not a sect in AN OFFICIAL REPORT.
Kim and his 3 colleagues spent hours telling tales of how Natha is a sect. Yet all their inventions are easily refuted by the hundreds of members of Natha who through their own lives demonstrate the opposite. In many places even their own tales were contradicting themselves. We would not tire you with the hours that would take to refute them, one by one. We will just mention one accusation by Karsten who claimed that Mihai Stoian was abusing his influence to gain more power and enjoy the resources of the school for his own personal wealth! Anyone who knows Mihai knows that he works an average of 16 hours a day for the benefit of the school and the students, day in and day out, even weekends, and in return he is given a salary that is smaller then that of a school teacher. This accusation from Karsten is even more absurd, considering that for a long period, Mihai was living in a small damp room in the basement of the ashram Prema, while Karsten was enjoying two large rooms in the upper floor. Is this the image of a leader who creates a sect in order to abuse its members for his own profit? Those from Natha who knew Kim’s witnesses while they were in the school can tell of the irony of their accusations. These people were notorious in Natha for their fanaticism and their individual tendency towards sectarian like behavior. Karsten and Celia especially were known for on many occasions preaching to others that they should be more dedicated to the school. This was an attitude which was specific to them and was not characterizing the life of the school. They were reproached by others and were even corrected many times by Mihai, explaining that this is not fit for a spiritual school – a school which is based on the freedom inherent to each of us. Therefore, when they criticize Natha – it is themselves that they criticize, for they were the sectarians in Natha.
4. Another claim by Kim’s accomplice’s was that the arguments provided by Natha have been falsified. Their proof to that is that, according to themselves – they were the ones who falsified them while they were still in Natha. This can be hardly considered as proof; since it is only their word and no one can confirm it (they do not even confirm each other’s statements). Celia Clausen, for example, created a situation that was surprising for all that were in that moment in the court (after Karsten Brask Fischer was performing something similar another time). At the moment of witnessing, Celia was asked by the lawyers how come she changed sides? She was the one who was responsible for running the civil case about the ownership of Bhoga and she wrote the subpoena together with Nathas lawyer, and thus to built up the defense of the Bhoga farm against Kim's attempts to steal the property from Natha. She also wrote herself a declaration with all her knowledge and experience about this case. Yet now her statements were contradicting her signed declaration. To this she explained that she was falsifying the declaration for the case to look good. When asked if she was forced to make such false documents she stated that she was not forced but she was considered responsible!!! This is a strange argument from a future lawyer. So, if one take a task and is considered responsible, then this will entitle him/her to do whatever it takes? What kind of character is using such argument? The situation is interesting also from a logical perspective: if Celia was lying in the court now it means that her previous declaration was true and now she is trying just to make things better for Kim. If she was falsifying indeed the declaration then it means that she was lying in that situation and this already disqualifies her as reliable witness and even as a lawyer later. Yet from all her statements in the court it comes out very clear the fact that she was now lying in the court and her previous declaration was true. For instance she stated (to the big surprise of all the former friends that were present in the court) that in reality she did nothing in Bhoga but to paint half of a wall and therefore her written declaration was false. Everyone that was involved in the Bhoga project will understand why was this statement a surprise for us in the court. Lying is something bad but lying in the court and in front of your former colleagues is much worse. Considering the fact that Celia Clausen is in the fourth year in the law school, her testimony in court prove a severe lack of responsibility and even fanaticism in defending her new friend Kim with any risks.
Furthermore, why should we believe Celia and Kims other witnesses (also Michael Eriksson stated in court that he lied before), since they themselves confessed that they falsified evidence for court? So, why believe a liar? How do we know that they are not lying now? They ask us to believe that all the dozens of witnesses of Natha and the dozens more who were not allowed to testify for lack of time, were all lying, and instead we should believe them – confessed liars. If anyone can believe that argument I dare say that their judgment is hindered by prejudice.
5. Another argument that Kim presented is what he considered as a precedent: when Natha rented a place on Købmagergade 26, which at the time was its center, the school invested effort and money into renovating the place, yet, when Natha moved out of that address, all that work was left behind. According to Kim, this precedent should be applied also for Bhoga. This is a very strange line of argumentation, since the two cases are totally different – in the case of Købmagergade 26 it was clear from the beginning that Natha is only renting the place and has no ownership over it, therefore Natha knew that all its work on renovating the place will be left behind one day, when they will move out. This was also the reason why the school paid very little rent for the place, since the renovations were considered as an investment. In Bhoga, however, the case was entirely different – there was a commitment from Kim that the farm belongs to Natha, and therefore, all the work invested into the place was done on the basis of the understanding that Natha owns the place. This is also why Natha paid all the bills and covered all the expenses. This is also showing that Natha is not going to trial for profit – otherwise it would have also went to trial over Købmagergade 26 – but is simply standing for justice.
We find 3 persons spreading lies that severely hurt the reputation and work of hundreds. One might ask, what could motivate 3 such individuals? Mikael stated himself that he is motivated by the fact that Kim has another legal case against him, one in which he might lose 100,000 kr. Therefore, Kim has the means to pressure him to comply with his agenda. As for Karsten and Celia, much can be said as to their motives, but since we do not wish here to degrade ourselves to their level of spreading malicious gossip, it would suffice to say that for a along while during their time in the school they have made serious mistakes against their fellow students, treating them badly as well as treating each other badly. Both of them being very sensitive to their image, they have tried to hide their mistakes and for a long time managed to do so, until eventually, their injuries against their colleagues and against each other exceeded themselves and were revealed by the student body. Confronted with the consequences of their own actions they decided to leave the school. It could have ended there, and friendship could have continued between them and their former colleagues. Yet, in order not to face their own mistakes, Karsten and Celia chose to throw the blame, saying that it was not their faults but everyone else’s. They turned themselves in their minds into victims – pretending that everything bad that happened to them was because of ‘the sect’ and not because of their own mistakes. Since then, they have used any opportunity to hurt Natha and their former colleagues: speaking ill of Natha in any occasion, commenting against it on the net, publicizing their fictional stories in papers and even testifying in court at any trial against Natha (The Bhoga case is not the first case to which they were lying in order to testify against Natha). Here one cannot but note that their obvious and active hostility towards Natha disqualifies them from being considered as objective and reliable witnesses. A witness biased by their own personal problems cannot be used in the court without biasing the result of the testimony. We can only hope that the judge has also noticed these elements and will consider with care these contradicting statements from the three witnesses.
The Bhoga trial is a case of formality vs reality. Kim's arguments are obviously formal while Natha's arguments are based on the reality of facts. The Judge is confronted with a difficult task since Kim Schmock has some documents on his name, yet there are plenty of witnesses which clearly prove Natha's version of the story. Today we are sometimes hiding under the shield of formalisms in order to protect ourselves from the impact Reality would have upon our soul. Yet sometime, in order to feel alive, one needs to cut out the formalisms and dare to look into reality without hesitation.
Now the truth only needs to wait for the Judge to give the final verdict on December 14th. And so, all our eyes are turned to the Judge Morten Larsen, in wait for him to acknowledge what is obvious to all those with eyes to see and ears to hear.

1. God the Father is and remains the one and the unique God of man, even in the moments we are not aware about this. Nature, within which the Eternal Feminine (Maha Shakti) is manifesting, is His temple. Beyond appearances, when our perspective is intensely and deeply transfiguring, each profoundly beneficial, divine and creative action can be seen as a sui generis ritual.
2. In reality, human beings are not equal, but every human being must be or become, and then remain completely free. People are identical only regarding the permanent presence of the immortal divine essence in their inner universe, which in reality is the Supreme Divine Self (Atman). All the human races existing on this planet are not equal, but it is necessary for us to take into account that each human race must be autonomous. Beyond appearances, the two genders (man and woman) are not equal, and yet none of these two should seek to dominate or to enslave the other.
3. In reality, each human being incessantly owes everything to God the Father, even when we are not aware about that. But, through sustained and adequate efforts, we can transform and awaken within us the fabulous potentialities existing in our inner universe. Thus, it is possible for every human being to overcome almost all limitations.
Almost always, every human being owes to the other human beings an absolutely fair, complete and exemplary honesty and integrity. Everybody owes to each human being the respect for freedom and the love that each human being is free to manifest, strongly connected to certain elective affinities and to certain spontaneous beneficial tendencies appearing within her or his inner universe.
4. Every time, without exception, each human being is offered that which she or he asked for. Knowing that, we should never disregard the fact that both during the process of inner transformation as well as in the process of self-knowledge, one acts only for oneself.
Beyond appearances, each of us has only that which she or he deserves and every human being is offered gifts according to her or his talents, abilities, qualities and virtues. Having a profound comprehension on this, every human being must make sustained and adequate efforts in order to fully awaken and activate the qualities, skills and talents which she or he was incarnated with. At the same time, every human being must make attentive, systematic and persevering efforts in order to fulfill his or her meaning or, in other words, mission in this life, in the best conditions.
Beyond appearances, every human being manifests intentions and makes choices according to one’s degree of inner transformation, to one’s level of intelligence and to one’s preferences. Knowing this, one can perceive intuitively and can understand why each human being acts for oneself, following one’s own interests and one’s own goals, as we can often notice and see in the majority of human beings.
5. There is a fundamental golden rule that says: “Do unto others as you would have others do unto you”. A second golden rule, less known, says: “If necessary, we really must make sustained and adequate efforts so that everything that is good, beautiful, divine and true should never be forbidden.”
The inner call, as well as the carefully supported goal to fulfill our own mission must be and must remain our first responsibility and our first right. It is also essential to take into account that all beneficial abilities, all divine calls, all wonderful talents, all creative skills, all divinely integrated tendencies, all beneficial, beautiful and sublime predispositions, all good and divine preferences, all talents and, in general, the vocation we feel, must be carefully discovered, brought into awareness and then fully awakened within us. And this is necessary in order for us to become, both for ourselves and for the other human beings, genuine treasures and authentic living examples.

Alcor – Fixed star with a magnitude of 4, from the Ursa Major constellation (15º52’ Virgo). It is not a remarkable star, but it was used by the Arabs of the desert as a test of a good sight, because they use to look towards Canopus as the highest star and towards Alcor as the lowest star on the visual scale. It is called by Al Biruni „the pious woman” and recalls the German story of the poor Hans Dumkin which, despite his poverty, he offered shelter to Jesus. Because he wanted all his life to travel, Jesus rewarded Hans Dumkin – as the story tells – giving him the Alcor star to carry him through the world, allowing him to remain forever a clairvoyant. Thus, Alcor seems to be connected to the nature of the relation between Jupiter and Venus, conferring a compasive, quiet, prudent, controlled, patient nature.
Asterion – Fixed star with a magnitude of 4,3, from the Beta Canes Venatici constellation (17º42’ Virgo) having the nature of the relation between Saturn and Venus. Its influx confers a sharp mind, pleasure of hunting, stable relations, intelligence.
Biham – Fixed star with a 3,7 magnitude, from the Theta Pegasus constellation (06º50’ Pisces), having the nature of the relation between Mars and Mercury. Its name it’s of Arabic origins and means „the youngest from the domestic animals”. It is said to be a lucky star. Its influence should be considered in the general assembly of the constellation.
Deneb Kaitos – Fixed star with a 2,2 magnitude, from the Beta Cetus constellation (2º35’ Aries), having the nature of the relation between Saturn, Mars and Mercury. Its name means „the whale tail pointing South”. It is told that it causes mental disorders, self-destruction through rough force, illness, disfavours, transformation that can’t be postponed anymore, psychological and physical inhibitions and limitations. In relation with Jupiter, it gives high ecclesiastical positions, but it also prones to hazards from the betrayal of hidden enemies.
El Koprach – Fixed star with a 3,8 magnitude, from the Chi Ursa Major constellation (03º40’ Virgo) having the nature of planet Mars. It is told to predispose to a quiet, prudent, controlled nature but also to suspicion, distrust, anger. Symbolically called „The Holy Grail” or the „Chalice of Jesus”, it confers idealism, psychic power, intelligence, honour and wealth, but rather these are seen as forms of spiritual elevation when the being passes by certain KARMA-ic purifications which prepares it for the spiritual liberation.
Facies - Fix star of 5.9 magnitude from MM2 Sagittarius (8º 18’ C), of the type of the relation Mars-Sun.
Denomination of Latin origin, derived from the verb „to make”. It has a bad reputation among astrologists because, when active in a theme, it predisposes to blinding, accidents and violent death. In its psychological aspect, the star indicates human beings who must materialize their beliefs and points of view through personal effort. They can encounter many failures, but they can get slightly hurt but, in the end, they will feel gratified by the value of their own actions, beliefs, aspirations.
Gienah (from Cygnus) - Fix star of 2.6 magnitude from Epsilon Cygnus (27º 45’ Aquarius), of the nature of the planets Venus -Mercury. It has this name (Giena from the Swan constellation) so that it can be distinguished from the Gienah in the Raven Constellation. It is said that it confers a contemplative nature, dreamily, cultivated and adaptable, attracted to water and nautical sports. At the same time, it predisposes to a certain emotional instability that causes the native’s talents to grow a little more difficult.
Kerb - Fix star of 4.6 magnitude from the Pegas Tharn (01º 03’ Aries), of the nature of the relation Mars-Mercury. Although it is part of a very important constellation in the meteorological changes, sometimes it is said that when it manifests its influence, the couples of lovers where love is not strong enough separate.
Kochab - Fix star of 2.1 magnitude from Beta Ursa Minor (13º 19’ Lion) of Saturn nature, one of the shiniest in the constellation. Its name means „the star” and it is said that it is the symbol of stability (constancy). It seems that, in the millennium that preceded our era, Kochab had the role of polar star.
Kraz - Fix star, of 2.8 magnitude, from Beta Corvus, (17º 22’ Libra) of the nature of the relation between Mars-Saturn. Its influence seems to be a contradictory one (and because of that very complex), because, (according to the way in which it is reflected by our inner nature) confers patience, passion, the capacity to awaken consciousness but also selfishness, revenge, falsehood, aggressiveness.
Mufrid- Fix star of 2.8 magnitude, from Eta Bootes (19º 20’ Libra) of the nature of the relation between Mercury -Saturn. The denomination of Arab origin means „the lonely star of the lancer”, as in the old times it was believed to be outside the constellation. The Babylonians used to call it , together with Arcturus, „the keeper of the celestial herds” or the „herdsman of the life in Heaven”, both forming one of the pairs of astronomical stars which were said to have the celestial function of watching over the rotation movement of Heaven (of the Skies) so that it never stops. It has a beneficent and long-lasting influence, sustaining heavy efforts, collective actions, deep transformations, total change of societies.
Nodus I, Nodus II - Fix stars of 3 magnitude from Zeta Draco (3º 23’ Libra) of the nature of the relation between Saturn-Mars. The Arabians called them „the she-wolves” or „the two hyenas” waiting for the camel calf (the latter being represented by the small star Al Ruba, which is „protected” by the „mother-camels” represented by the big stars Alwaid, Etamin, Kuma and Grumium). Their influence must be considered in the general assemble of the constellation.
Polis - Triple fix star, variable on a magnitude 3 from Mu Sagittarius (3º 13’ Capricorn) of the nature of the relation Jupiter-Mars. The Egyptian astrology calls it „the colt”. It was part of the asterism known as „the return of the ostriches” or „the bird of the dessert’’ that crossed the Milky Way. Polis confers ambition, martial abilities, the art of riding, kinetic perceptions, makes the native worth the trust of the others. It can be often found in the native theme of the officials from the spiritual world or of those of certain famous theologians. Well-aspected but not in conjunction with the Sun, or placed anywhere except for the 10th house, Polis indicates a person whose interest and knowledge in the spiritual field can be both impressive and very profound.
Sadalabchia - Fix star of 4 magnitude from the Gamma Aquarius (6º 43’ Pisces), of the nature of the relation between Venus-Mercury. Its name (of Arabian origin) means „the lucky star of the tents” because immediately after it rose, in spring, the tents of the nomads were raised again on the green fields. The other signification, „the lucky star of secret things”, comes from the fact that, together with its uprise, everything that before was hidden or difficult to find, now became visible, especially the lizards and dangerous animals from the desert. Its influence manifests, in the hourly astrology, as a capacity to discover all that is hidden. Thus, it indicates the bet time for modifications that can be paved with success, if it is well-placed and well aspected in the theme.
Seginus (Haris) - Fix star of magnitude 3 from Gamma Bootis (17º40’ Libra), of the nature of the relation Mercury - Saturn. Its name comes from the Greek theguius, „ploughman”, and its Arabian name, Haris, signifies „the guard” or „that who protects”, and it indicates the early asterism, the „she wolves” or „the hyenas” when the Arabs have not adopted yet the Greek system of constellations. Some astrologists say that the influence of this star can be perceived either as mental refinement or losing certain values of various nature because of friends. Others affirm that it confers a special gift for writing and eloquence.
Sualocin - Fix star of 3.9 magnitude, from Alpha Delphinus (17º23’ Aquarius), of the nature of the relation Mercury - Jupiter. It confers a pleasant appearance, the pleasure of hunting and of practicing sports, aptitude for ecclesiastic life and for voyages, but also predisposal to suffering caused by the state of ingratitude.
Zaniah - Fix star of magnitude 4 from Eta Virgo (4º 31’ Libra), of the nature of the relation Mercury-Venus. It a star with a very interesting significance and celestial „function”: it marks precisely the line of the celestial Equator. Its Arabian name means „the angle”. The Chinese used to call it “Tso Chih Fa”, „the one who preserves the Law with her left hand”. In the ancient Sumerian culture, Zaniah, together with another fix star, Zavijava, symbolized Nynsar, „Goddess of Herbs”. It is said that this star awakens and amplifies refinement, honor, order, elevated affection, the capacity of moderating effectively and even that of solving in a wise and just litigations and of bringing peace between people. Its association, in an astral theme, with a planet, seems to amplify its influence, „lowering” it (modulating it) with the nature of the respective planet.

Now that the dividing wall has come down the second half of the camp begins with one of the most special spiritual exercises for the couple – couple asanas. This variation of the usual practice of individual yoga asanas, is a genius way to spiritualise the couple relationship, bringing new levels of depth and understanding between the two people.
When we do asanas, we put ourselves in resonance – we tune into a certain vibrational frequency – with universal aspects which through this resonance process then become amplified in our own being. By doing this with another person, especially one with whom we have an intimate and loving relationship, we amplify these aspects within our being even more, while at the same time bringing us closer to the one we love, and closer to God.
In last year’s summer Tantra Camp Mihai began to reveal the principles of Tantra. The Tantric path is made up of principles combined with experience and now for the first time in this school, these principles have been synthesized and they have found their debut here in Denmark. At this point in the camp it’s time to deepen our approach to the Tantric path together, through the comprehensive approach provided by these principles. Introducing this next chapter, Mihai told us that these principles “form a genuine net upon which the supreme consciousness manifests, forming the entire creation. They are not some parallel lines, each one showing one line, but they interact with one another forming a kind of intricate labyrinth of connections in which the limited being gets lost while at the same time they constitute a way to get free from these limits.”
The first principle for this camp is the principle of awareness. As Mihai already indicated in the opening lecture when he gave the three fundamental ways to identify with Shiva, awareness is one of the keys on the Tantric path, and one which we should have all been practicing fervently these days! Mihai introduces the first principle, stating, “There is no yoga which is superior to the state of awareness, being aware of the divine principle which exists in everything, is the supreme freedom.” We trick ourselves into believing we are awake, but due to the excessive use of the inferior mind we actually live in a kind of mental prison which brings us suffering and keeps us in a delusional state. However, when we truly awaken, emerging from the dream-like state we usually indulge in, we begin to become aware. This state of awareness is characterized by an intensive state of lucidity in which we live life in the present moment, with all our consciousness present in every action, functioning above the tendencies of the inferior mind. He says that “in order to wake up we need to be aware in those moments when we are awake and to imprint those moments on our memory. To stop the sleep of the consciousness we need to pierce the impression we already have by consciously focusing.” By being aware, we can gain control of all the resonances we have in every moment and this is why Tantra insists on the development of this awareness, by awakening the supramental level of our being through practicing certain techniques such as yoga asanas. The tantric adept has mastered control over all the energies, over all the resonances and as a result has freed him/herself from the bonds of ignorance. By being attentive and heart-full at the same time we can realize an almost complete state of awakening, but for this we must act without delay! For it is when we sleep that we delay our actions and when we are awake we act immediately. Through spontaneous, immediate action we disconnect the automatic mind, meaning we cut off the autopilot and start to live life consciously.
The principle of superior control reveals to us the secrets of energy control, from the exterior perspective – when we are outside the phenomenon. By being conscious of a phenomenon it implies that we step back from it and through this principle we can understand this. This principle indicates the practical way in which this power of consciousness over a certain phenomenon or manifestation can be obtained. Mihai tell us that superior control is “obtained through a spontaneous state of detachment from the phenomenon, lifting our point of view to a superior level from where we can truly have control.” It has exceptional importance in the spiritual practice, giving the orientation and the efficiency of the practice. An important aspect is that the presence of effort in the act of control limits the control ability to the ability of making the effort. So, superior control also means effortless control, meaning that by being in a detached state and being relaxed we can have this control without making extra effort, in fact the more detached and relaxed we are, the more easy it is to have superior control.
As these principles are all interconnected, part of the web that makes up Tantra, the principle of reality’s efficiency is closely connected with the principle of awareness. Reality’s efficiency is about being aware of the reality in which we are. “Being aware of this reality is not only the consequence of awakening, but is the condition for evolution,” Mihai explains. Tantra states that we should always start the journey where we are and the first rule of this is to know where we are. Unfortunately, most people have created an imaginary world in which they choose to live, they “create a surrogate reality, covering the walls of their prison cell with the snapshots of an imaginary reality,” therefore they cannot possibly know where they really are in a given moment! We have to stop and take our heads out of the sand and connect with the transformative power of reality – to actually live in The Reality. A very good way to tune into the reality is through the magic act of transfiguration, in which we perceive everything in its essence, in its true divine nature.
Here in the picturesque Danish countryside, transfiguration happens spontaneously. The idyllic landscape, reminds me of the spiritually fulfilling experience I had recently amongst the natural wonders of Bornholm. At certain moments in the day, particularly sunrise and sunset, this country is bathed in a heavenly light which awakens such a state of serenity and contentment inside of me. The beauty in these moments almost overwhelms me, bringing me closer to my divine nature. I realize how happy I am to be alive.

Waking up this morning at a leisurely hour to do couple asanas was a welcome break from the disciplined vira routine. People were more relaxed and the atmosphere in the dining area was now filled with a more obvious flirting than the silent one we had just come out of. Doing the couple asanas that first day was intense and also an experience that grounded me into the spirit of the camp. It was also quite odd to see that there was no wall in the middle of the room, separating the men from the women. I can see how quickly I can establish a comfort zone. Where to sit and who to eat with becomes quickly a habit. It is like the bat that gets used to how the furniture is arranged in the room and flies through on autopilot. Then that is what there was - no awareness, only autopilot.
Later in the evening there was a massage lecture by some of the teachers, Ulrik and Daniela. It was very exciting to get some insight into the mysteries of tantric massage. Just being there in the room and ready to participate in giving pleasure to someone else was like witnessing divine grace for me. I had the utmost respect for the shape of Shakti lay before my eyes. At first I didn’t dare to be firm in my stroke since I perceived something refined and sensuous in Shaktis shape. But quickly after it dawned on me that massage has to be firm and gentle also. Perceiving through the heart using my body and hands as an extension of the hearts intelligence is a challenge. Everyone (almost) can knead a loaf of bread, but to feel and perceive the tissue and muscles of shakti is something quite different .
On Saturday, after a hectic day of work I finally stood in the Brahmarandra spiral. Holding hands with so many people signifies the possibility of a harmonious brotherhood of man-kind. We were opening the channels of God to come through to this earth. That day standing in that unified filed of intent and surrender I just enjoyed being present and to experience the latent power that is always within our reach as long as we keep our minds open. I had the experience of mentally thinking a thought and then in the next moment what happened to me was that I was having that same experience in my body. That showed me how powerful my thoughts can be. It was a little more mysterious. I was in my mind casually experiencing a stream of thought; stream which I normally would deem as chattering of the mind, but when I started to mold the thought and mentally imagine my Sahashrara opening up, it really opened up quite strongly to the point where I got shivers and spasms in my body and then I was filled with a peace and inner harmony.
After the spiral followed the party, beginning first with some shows. Some of the participants in the camp did some performances and, my God, it was beautiful. Here are these girls that I casually interact with on a daily basis in normal situations over lunch or in the common areas and the next thing these beings transform themselves into magical creatures of grace and rare sensuality. I admire their courage in how they give of themselves in the performance. They are very open and I sense a radiance of their inner nature that is on fire in the moment of doing an act. Their movements and their gestures become not a matter of physical maneuvering, but a matter of seeing their inner nature or essence playfully manifesting in a room of curious onlookers. I remember the sense of delight and also the sense of seeing persons who were far more talented than me making me feel humble to be in their presence.
The dancing started after midnight and usually I am a little shy on the dance floor, but that night I let go and participated and joined the flirting on the floor. I danced intensely and let go of my rigid habits of mechanical movements and flowed into the soup of dancers that makes that chaotic twirling of people move in irrational patterns. I remember dancing with this one sweet shakti who just molded my movements into a coherent rhythm with the music. I felt like the dance floor had given me a second chance. I really felt like dancing all night, and went to sleep at 3 o'clock, to be ready to wake up the next morning for a new day of spiritual practice.

Until recently, Maria Porsfelt was known mostly as an inspiring teacher of Yoga, Tantra and meditation in Natha Yogacenter. However, in its Sunday issue on 31st May, Jyllands Posten newspaper tried to connect her name with a new scandal (they are trying to create) with the purpose of again attacking the Yoga school. To clarify this matter I contacted Maria and asked her some questions. She was kind, and over a telephone interview she openly and honestly shared her thoughts and feelings on the matter. Here is the interview:
R: For those who don't know you, can you please tell us something about yourself and your connection with Natha Yogacenter?
Maria: I started attending Yoga courses in Natha Yogacenter in 2001. I was a university student and I fell in love with a guy who was practicing Yoga in India. He told me about it with a lot of enthusiasm, and, as I had always wanted to practice Yoga and was very interested in it, I decided that this was the time to find out more about it, and we both decided to follow the Yoga courses offered by Natha Yogacenter. There I found out that their approach to Yoga was genuine and it was everything that I had dreamt of and more. In this way, Yoga became a very important part of my life. I temporarily interrupted my university studies and spent some years traveling through Asia, studying Yoga and traveling around Thailand and India, and it was a wonderful period of my life. It was during these travels that I met Jean Baptiste Miro. Upon my return from traveling, I resumed my studies at the university, where I am now doing my masters in philosophy, and I also returned to the study and practice of Yoga and Tantra with Natha Yogacenter. In general, I find the integration of my university studies and my activity in Natha very harmonious. I have always thought it is important to finish my studies.
R: What is your role in Natha Yogacenter?
Maria: I am the Chairman of Natha Yogacenter. I was elected by the board on the 16th of March 2008. The trust they placed in me was a big surprise, but probably my activity within the school was recommending me. However, my main activity there is to teach Yoga, Tantra and meditation.
R: On Sunday 31st May, JP newspaper published an article in which you are accused of participating in a sex movie. What is your reply to this accusation?
Maria: I am fully standing for all of my activities. It is a bit painful to see how my actions are presented in this twisted way by the newspaper. I was informed by my family and friends about what is going on, as I am not in Denmark in this present moment. When I read the on-line article in JP, I was amazed. From their description, I could hardly recognize the movie they wrote about in the way I knew it – they were presenting it as a ''pornographic movie'', something sleazy and perverse. In reality “Eve's Awakening” was made from a completely different perspective – a perspective of sublime and spiritual eroticism.
As I said, I have known Jean Baptiste for quite some years now – we first met in Thailand. Back then, he was making a documentary about eastern spirituality, and it was very inspiring. He is very talented and that project was both daring and inspiring. The same is with this new project of creating a transfigurative and spiritualized alternative form of eroticism, using artistic tools. When I heard about it, it seemed to be a good opportunity to help him give an artistic expression to the ideals and beliefs we both share regarding sacred love and love-making. We meant this project to be a ray of light in the darkness that dominates the adult film industry. The movie is meant to give an alternative to people, to the way they live their intimate lives, to give a more elevated and spiritual perspective upon sexuality and to give another perspective for living life in a way that is completely fulfilling and that would make them happy.
The idea was to gather some people who have experience in applying the tantric teachings in their life, then to find the artistic means to create the transmission of the spiritual message. It was a wonderful experience for me to participate in this project. We were talking a lot about finding the best way to illustrate the elements of human eroticism in terms of spirituality and Jean Baptiste was constantly pushing the team towards the most spiritual approach in order to fulfill the highest standards.
So, it was not at all a sex-movie, as JP presented it. It was about showing how intimacy can be approached differently and how it can become a beautiful act of love-making, with transfiguration, love and intimacy. It was only from this perspective that I decided to join this project, together with Miro. I trust him very much, I saw the other movies he made on various other subjects and I like very much what he does.
R: Do you feel the movie was loyal to this perspective?
Maria: Yes. When I watch this movie, I find it very beautiful and inspiring and it is something that I am happy to have participated in. I know that spiritualizing the erotic experience, that involves perfect control over the sexual impulse, is a daring action since the sexual energy is very powerful and many people allow themselves to be dominated by it. Yet we are not starting from scratch, our parents were the generation that started the sexual revolution so I don't see why we should now be less open...
R: But in their article, JP insinuates that there is a connection between Sublime Erotica and Natha. Can you make it clear – is there any connection between Natha and the production of the movie, from the financial or administrative perspectives?
Maria: No, there is no connection between Natha and Sublime Erotica from any financial or administrative perspectives. Furthermore, the insinuations they made about the finances of the movie are off the scale. Miro put all his finances into this project and the whole team participated without any financial gain so that we can make this work. You know how hard it is to start a new project, especially when it is not known by many. And this is another thing that makes me so upset about this article. Besides the fact that the newspaper presents a very beautiful movie as something vulgar - it also insinuates that it has something to do with my everyday job as a teacher and as Natha’s Chairman. If I had had another job (like working in a bank) – for sure the journalist would not connect things in this way, but since JP has a clear goal of discrediting Natha Yogacenter (which is obvious to any person with common sense that reads their articles, considering they continuously refuse to publish our replies), they invent things and they twist the facts. From my perspective, it is ridiculous to make this connection and I take it as an offense. If the journalist had tried to call me I would have clarified this for him... but that would probably have ruined his point, and anyway he was running out of points in his hidden agenda.
In conclusion, I state clearly that there is no financial connection whatsoever, and no administrative connection between Natha and Sublime Erotica.
Natha and Sublime erotica are two different activities in my life. My involvement with Sublime Erotica is that of a private person, doing something which I believed and still believe is right. I know Jean Baptiste is an excellent director, and by participating in his movies I was involved in an interesting project, which I consider as being of great help for those with an open mind and with less inhibitions regarding sexuality, and who are looking for an alternative that makes them happy and free. This activity is not opposing in any way the things that I teach in Natha, because in fact this movie is built on some of the Tantric principles that I teach. Anyone seeing this movie will see at least that it was not meant to be pornographic.
Making this connection between me and a pornographic movie is meant to discredit me and the school and since they didn’t make any pornographic movies they are making this one appear as such. From there, with a series of insinuations the connection is made in a forceful way in order to obtain the scandalous effect.
R: This is not the only article. There is a series of articles against Natha Yogacenter, accusing it of being a sex sect. What is your reply to this series of articles?
Maria: I am still amazed. I would never have imagined seeing such strange journalism in Denmark - particularly in its obsession with the sexual aspect, making a big scandal out of it based on lies and by twisting the truth. There is so much emphasis on this, instead of mentioning all the wonderful courses and workshops on other subjects that we have in Natha. I am surprised that JP only focuses on some sexual stories and is trying to turn it into a scandal. Especially in my country I would have never expected these things to happen because we are supposed to be quite free and more relaxed when it comes to sexuality. As I mentioned we had a sexual revolution – Denmark is one of the places where this sexual revolution was initiated! And this was even in my parents’ generation! I am very surprised to see that my own generation is less open. Now I can see that some journalist is trying to create hysteria in the media – over a few movies with an erotic subject - which is completely far out. In these movies the eroticism is presented in a very beautiful and harmonious way and if those who criticize these movies would bother to watch them, they would change their opinion; they would see that it is something very different than the way that they present it, but it is clear that they only want scandal. They are not interested in finding out the truth as nobody made any effort to contact Natha or Sublime Erotica. This shows that they just want to find any excuse to attack and hurt Natha.
As for the sect accusation, I think that my life as it is would not be possible in a sect. They have insinuated that the students in Natha are isolating themselves from society, family and friends. Since I am in university and I’m also in good contact with my family, how can I fit into such a sect? It’s easy to label an organization that cannot defend itself because you don't publish any reply from it as a sect. Anyhow, if Natha was a sect, be sure that I would not be there in the first place and also this interview would not take place.
I hope the authorities will have the discernment to see the true face of Natha Yogacenter through this smoke screen that JP is trying to create. I assure you that I wouldn't have dedicated a big part of my time to Natha if that school would have mistaken spirituality with pornography. On the contrary, the teachings offered by Natha Yogacenter on the subjects of Yoga and Tantra make a very clear distinction between spirituality and sacred eroticism on the one hand and sexual perversions and uncontrolled sexual desires on the other. The spiritual methods that are offered can allow anyone to control and even transcend the inferior impulses. Since the journalist describes the movie ''Eve's Awakening'' as pornography, and also insinuates that Natha is teaching such things or is gaining a financial advantage from this, I must say that I am in doubt of his good intentions and his honesty.
I invite anyone who wants to discover what NATHA is to visit the school and to have a direct experience. There is nothing that can replace this knowledge.
R: Thank you for your time and for these clarifications. We would like to ask you some more questions but you mentioned in the beginning that we have limited time now. We will come back to you later, maybe after seeing if JP publishes NATHA's reply, now that NATHA is making an official legal request for the newspapers to publish it.
Maria: Yes, you are very welcome. I'm also looking forward to the newspaper’s public clarification following this series of mistakes. Goodbye.

Presentation of the Ten Great Cosmic Powers:
The Tantric Festival 2006 kept by Natha Yogacenter was dedicated to celebrate the Eternal Feminine - the Supreme Energy of God: MAHA SHAKTI (The Great Shakti). As a gift for our web-guests, who could not participate to this extraordinary tantric camp we here publish the entire presentation of the Ten Great Cosmic Powers from the camp program.Extracts from the camp program 'International Yoga symposium Vejby, Denmark 2006':
The Ten Great Cosmic Powers
short presentation by Mihai Stoian, Natha Yogacenter
Shakti means feminine power, force of nature, energy. She is the expression of the Eternal Feminine, or the Mother Deity, unifying femininity and maternity through her manifestation as the force of Nature.
In the Tantric tradition, the term Shakti defines an extraordinarily complex aspect of the universe, which bears numerous nuances. Some of these are: cosmic creative force, mother who gave birth to everything, cosmic energy, seductive woman, devoted sister, terrible power who destroys all limitations, Goddess who grants divine gifts, feminine force residing especially in beautiful, vital and spiritual women, fundamental energy Kundalini Shakti, matrix of the whole Creation.
The divine energy, Shakti, does not allow Herself to be confined in any form, formula or ritual. Solid as the earth, fluid as the water, bright as the fire, free as the air, infinite as the space, She traverses all elements belonging to this world, without acquiring the identity of any. But nevertheless the tantric tradition underlines that in order to understand Shakti one has to know Her through identification and adoration.
In her supreme form, Shakti is identified with Mahadevi or Mahamaya, the Great Goddess, the power who creates and destroys everything, often represented as the mysterious uterus from which everything emerged and into which everything dissolves.
In the tantric cosmology, the whole universe is considered to have emerged and to be permanently sustained by two forces, opposed and complementary in terms of polarity, structuring the whole range of complex phenomena: Shiva (masculine, Yang, solar) and Shakti (feminine, Yin, lunar). As Tantra says: “There is no Shiva (any form of consciousness) without Shakti (the intrinsic energy contained in that consciousness) nor Shakti without Shiva.”
And to understand this more here is another aphorism: “Shiva and Shakti cannot be separated from each other exactly like the fire and its inherent power to burn”.
Maha Shakti (the Supreme Energy) exists in the Manifestation everywhere and in everything, in numberless forms and aspects but among them there are 10 most important and great essential energies from which everything that exists manifests. These are known in the secret tantric tradition as DASHA MAHA VIDYA - the Ten Great Cosmic Enlightening Visions or Feminine Powers.
Fundamental energies of this Created Universe, the Great Cosmic Powers represent the core of the Tantric tradition being in the same time an extraordinary path to reach spiritual perfection by awakening gradually all the potentialities that are hidden in our being.
The terrible force of time, the grace of endless compassion, dazzling beauty, all-comprising vision, endless courage, capacity for self-sacrifice, fascinating radiance, sublime vacuity, expressive play, intoxicating harmony... all these are different aspects of the Supreme Feminine Energy and each of them may lead you to gain control over your energies and to the experience of the Ultimate Reality.
Since Tantra is the science of gradually expanding the consciousness beyond any limits by uniting our consciousness with the Energies of Creation, it becomes clearer that the initiation in the mysteries of the main energies of Creation is the axis of this ancient spiritual path. Almost forgotten nowadays, this special initiation called DASHA MAHA VIDYA (The Great Knowledge about the Ten Cosmic Powers) is part of our school and it is revealed gradually during the years of study and practice.
In this camp, due to its special integration in a spiritual field, these revelations can be approached easily even by a beginner in spirituality.
Each day of the camp is consecrated to a Cosmic Power and, from the yoga practice in the morning until the end of the day, you are invited to stay attentive and perceive the mysterious influence of that energy. Manifested as special states and deeply significant experiences, all oriented toward the sphere of influence of that Great Cosmic Power, sudden intuitions, clarification of some aspects of your life or of your spiritual studies, amazing synchronicities, and much more might appear as a conclusion of the day. They will be more like a symphony of delicate gestures of communion with the fundamental energies of this Manifestation rather than a sterile intellectual understanding.
We wish you overwhelming Love and wonderful inspirations…
The Tantric Vision
In the Tantric vision, the Universe has a pyramidal vibratory structure. Different worlds are placed on different levels or strata. Each stratum has a definite rate of vibration and expresses a definite level of consciousness. At the top of this gigantic pyramidal structure there are certain Cardinal Foci of Energy (Vidya-s) symbolically called “Great Cosmic Powers” or “Goddesses”, which have a paramount role in creating, maintaining and resorbing the Cosmos.
The disciplines that lead to the inner communion with these Cosmic Powers are known as Maha Vidya Yoga or Shri Vidya Yoga. These are the supreme fundamental ways (paths) of profound knowledge and wisdom.
It can be said that the Ten Great Feminine Cosmic Powers (Dasha Maha Vidya-s) are the ten fundamental aspects of the Supreme Cosmic Mother’s personality. Nevertheless, each Goddess has a specific cosmic function in the universal harmony. Each of them represents a particular cosmic function and each leads to a special realization of the One and Unique Reality.
For the one aspiring to perfection the importance of the reality of SHAKTI springs out from the fact that SHAKTI is representing also the spiritual efficiency. The aspirant that awakens SHAKTI (in various forms) in his/her being is becoming highly efficient in all beneficial and spiritual actions. Without the realizing efficiency of SHAKTI it is almost impossible to succeed on the path to perfection. But to awaken SHAKTI is in the same time the direct way to awaken the consciousness – SHIVA, yet to adore SHAKTI seems much easier for many in our time.
The might of Kali, the sound force of Tara, the beauty and bliss of Sundari, the vast vision of Bhuvaneswari, the effulgent charm of Bhairavi, the striking force of Chinnamasta, the mysterious void of Dhumavati, the hypnotizing powers of Bhagalamukhi, the expressive play of Matangi and the concord and harmony of Kamalatmika are the various characteristics - the distinct manifestations of the Supreme Consciousness that has made this creation possible.
The Great Cosmic Power of Transformation - KALI
The Great Cosmic Power KALI represents, in eternity, the spiritual principle of continuous transformation, and Her cosmic actions are meant to serve the accomplishment of the Supreme Realization after the gradual unfolding of the divine possibilities in temporal succession. She is the supreme and mysterious power of Time that also helps the sincere and devoted spiritual seekers to transcend the becoming and to reach the everlasting perfection which is beyond Time.
The divine discrimination, the right action, which overcomes any obstacles and the inspired skillfulness in action are specific aspects of this Great Cosmic Power. She represents the colossal potential of the creative sexual energy, and also the amazing power of transformation that is plenary manifested through love and frantic sexuality. In the human being, she is the tremendous energy, Kundalini Shakti.
The Great Cosmic Power KALI is spontaneously loved by the brave one, by the one who ventures full of noble enthusiasm, by the courageous spiritual hero, VIRA. The VIRA’s path, VIRACHARA, is the most adequate for those who want to obtain KALI’s overwhelming grace.
The Great Cosmic Power of Compassion and Divine Grace - TARA
The Great Cosmic Power TARA is also called “The Savioress” and the “Guiding Star”. She represents the very manifestation of Divine Grace ‘saving’ her worshippers from the life in “samsara” (the ocean of illusion). Among other aspects, She emanates from the Supreme Absolute Divine Compassion. TARA is also the All-mighty power of the primordial Sound, the fundamental pranava AUM, the Word which foreruns the arising of the creation, the substance-sound, the quintessence of all the sounds, the affirmative Logos, the assertion of the creative Divinity, the source of speech, and the owner of the superior knowledge.
In the Tantric tradition TARA represents also the Cosmic Feminine Power that responds the fastest to the aspirations and the prayers of anybody who is sincerely asking for help. This aspect of the Supreme Consciousness, this Cosmic Power is the one that is the most efficient in difficult situations, when we feel lost and when we cannot find the right way by ourselves. Her function in Creation is to protect the sincere aspirant on the path and especially in difficult moments to guide him\her like a star that is guiding the sailor in darkness on the ocean.
The Great Cosmic Power of Beauty, Truth and Harmony - TRIPURA SUNDARI
The Great Cosmic Power TRIPURA SUNDARI represents the manifestation of Divine goodness, grace, love, beauty, truth and harmony. When happiness mirrors and manifests itself as plenary and harmoniously as possible in a certain form, its expression is Divine Beauty: the Great Cosmic Power TRIPURA SUNDARI.
Each created form (shape) expresses a profound spiritual necessity. Becoming gradually aware of this secret reality gets us closer and closer to Atman, the final essence of each form.
TRIPURA SUNDARI is the Supreme and Primordial Wish, the perfect and endless Divine Love that animates the entire creation, the overflowing of the absolute, fundamental Happiness, The Power of Absolute Splendor.
TRIPURA SUNDARI is the Supreme Manifestation of the Almighty power of LOVE. As an absolute law of the entire Creation, Love is a manifestation of GOD. The Great Cosmic Power TRIPURA SUNDARI is therefore the one that is practically identical with GOD as SHIVA, with whom She is forming the inseparable Divine Couple. For this reason any harmonious and loving couple relationship is inspired and sustained by this Great Cosmic Power. For those who want to bring Love and harmony into their relationship the invocation and adoration of TRIPURA SUDARI is an essential help.
The Great Cosmic Power of Space and Divine Knowledge - BHUVANESHWARI
The Great Cosmic Power BHUVANESHWARI represents, in an ineffable way, the direct experience of the concept of the endless and all-including space. She is the Divine Mother of all the worlds and of all the realms.
The Great Cosmic Power BHUVANESHWARI is the gigantic sphere of force that creates, penetrates, maintains and nourishes the worlds. She is the omnipresent force, the thread, and at the same time the mysterious warp of the entire texture of the Creation.
The Great Cosmic Power BHUVANESHWARI allows us to access the superior, supernatural, parallel worlds, enabling us to fully experience the truths of the Cosmic Illusion Maya. From a very spiritual perspective, the Cosmic Energy of Space is nothing but the illusion of the Formless Form. Its existence is a magical Reality (sometimes deceptive), an ephemeral reflection, the Power of the Infinite Consciousness to reflect finite forms. Among other characteristics, BHUVANESHWARI also manifests the Divine Knowledge. She is the one that is framing the context of our spiritual evolution and that is arranging the favorable situations for the beginning.
The Great Cosmic Power of Discipline and Sacrifice - TRIPURA BHAIRAVI
The Great Cosmic Power TRIPURA BHAIRAVI is the gigantic energetic Sphere of Self Discipline (Tapas) and Sacrifice. The resonance with this Great Cosmic Power amplifies within the human being enthusiasm and ardent aspiration towards God.
BHAIRAVI (the Terrible) is the fire of Tapas, which allows the annihilation of the negative karma and the accumulation of the necessary energy for spiritual ‘jumps’.
The fire of aspiration raised by BHAIRAVI is the one that ceaselessly determines the human being to surpass its own limitations, the all-pervading force of the consciousness that widens, and deepens all aspects of that being.
Like the fire of Tapas, like the flame of growing aspiration, TRIPURA BHAIRAVI, the grim terror that blows in the heart of the indolent ones, burns all the miseries and weaknesses, and finally purifies the serious aspirants, making them ready to receive Divine Grace. TRPURA BHAIRAVI is the Cosmic Power that represents the exclusive focus in the present action, focus that is generating the conditions for further transformation. This vectorial power into action is the one that makes it possible to restrict our actions in moments when the spiritual “jump” is ready to take place. TRIPURA BHAIRAVI is the one that is helping the individual to transcend the limitation that is given by the selfish actions by this exclusive focus into the action that is leading to a “forgetting about the ego” and thus transcending it in the middle of the action.
The Great Cosmic Power of Courage and Transcending of the Ego - CHINNAMASTA
CHINNAMASTA is the Great Cosmic Power of endless Courage for realizing the supreme self-sacrifice: the cutting off of the mind in order to discover what is beyond it! She manifests the true spiritual heroism, boldness, bravery, temerity.
CHINNAMASTA helps to immediately overcome certain tormenting and negative resonances, such as: fear, fright, negative temptations, demonic attacks, and thus it becomes possible to achieve a heroic attitude, an attitude of divine abnegation, and self sacrifice in order to be able to transcend all these negative aspects. The divine anger (oriented against all evil but especially against the ego) is the specific energy of CHINNAMASTA, which can act instantaneously producing sudden transformations. She is known as the most efficient protector against any demonic influence. She is as well known as the most fierce enemy of the ego - which is the human’s biggest demon.
CHINNAMASTA is also the Great Cosmic Power liberating the aspirant from the state of enchainment in the gross sensuality of the physical body.
Acting as an electric energy along Shushumna Nadi, CHINNAMASTA has an important role in opening Brahmarandhra, the door of Brahma, in the very top of the head.
The Great Cosmic Power of Sublime Vacuity - DHUMAVATI
The Great Cosmic Power DHUMAVATI is the endless energetic sphere of the Ineffable and Blissful Vacuity which allows for the immediate transcendence of any sufferance.
Her specific subtle energy makes possible, among other things, the denial and the transcendence of unconsciousness, evil, ignorance, pessimism, depression, frustration, boredom, inertia, confusion, recklessness and the alchemizing of these inferior tendencies into wonderful spiritual states.
Through the ample and profound communion with DHUMAVATI’s infinite sphere of force, all the inferior aspects of the states of passive inner emptiness generated by sufferance may be very easily annihilated and sublimated into the elevated energies of the Divine, Blissful Void.
The Great Cosmic Power DHUMAVATI gives the mysterious impulse for transforming the existential feeling of emptiness into euphoric Vacuity.
The Great Cosmic Power of Fascination and Stoppage - BAGALAMUKHI
The Great Cosmic Power BAGALAMUKHI manifests the energetic sphere of Divine paralyzing fascination producing the necessary discontinuity in the flux of ephemeral becoming. This discontinuity is always needed as a gate for transcending ignorance.
Through Her grace, we are instantaneously translated into the Divine, Blissful Creative Void and we achieve the state of Divine Ecstasy, Samadhi. With the help of this Great Cosmic Power we attain, in certain special circumstances, the suspension of mental fluctuations, and the maintenance of this suspension in order to realize the fusion with the Absolute and the transcendence of the world of illusion.
The Great Cosmic Power BAGALAMUKHI confers to the aspirant the power of fascination and the gift of eloquence.
She is very helpful also for the stopping of any negative process, aspect, state. She is the Great Cosmic Power that is acting first against the negative forces and energies until we are ready to defend them. In this way She represents an aspect of Divine Grace.
The Great Cosmic Power of Universal Order and Wisdom - MATANGI
The universal order and harmony that is an expression of Divine Wisdom is manifested by the Great Cosmic Power MATANGI. She is the one that makes possible the fact that in the whole universe law is ruling in Eternity.
She makes the beauty, harmony, love and splendor of the whole Universe to exist in Eternity not as an exception from chaos but as a law from which chaos is just a temporary exception.
The Great Cosmic Power MATANGI is the Divine Wisdom that exists behind everything.
She is the power that inspires the talented writers, the inspired poets, the famous singers, the eloquent speakers and the wonderful musicians, being the source of their fascination.
In daily life she is the power that is given to the spoken word to bring harmony and peace when it is correctly used.
MATANGI should be the one adored especially by those that want to increase harmony and the state of order in their lives.
The Great Cosmic Power of Divine Fulfilment and Abundance - KAMALATMIKA
KAMALATMIKA is the Great Cosmic Power that expresses in the manifestation the completitude and the fulfillment of the Supreme in the act of creation. She is the beatific consciousness in manifestation, the spiritual lucidity, the beauty and bliss expressed in the entire creation.
KAMALATMIKA’s power is that which removes any kind of poverty: the poverty in the physical world as well as poverty in the spiritual world. She is the one that appears as the most enchanting of the Great Cosmic Feminine Powers but in the same time she is the one that disappears the fastest from the ones that are forgetting about Her.
With great generosity this Great Cosmic Power is giving gifts to Her worshipers such as: richness, joy, plenitude, enchantment, happiness, opulence, elation, ecstasy.
KAMALATMIKA is the play of consciousness full of joy and spontaneity in its display in the outside world. She is the crowning of the whole Creation that is in the end the fulfillment in the Divine Ecstasy.

Gurdjieff - the Unknown Man
by Kenneth Walker, M. D
The Russian philosopher P. D. Ouspensky illustrated the difficulty of recognizing a teacher of esoteric knowledge, with two stories. The first told of a German who journeyed to India in search of a guru and returned without having found one. He had not realized that the native servant who looked after him while he was in that country was the man for whom he was seeking. The second story referred to a dealer in parrots living in Bordeaux, who, quite unbeknown to his fellow townsmen, was a teacher of esoteric knowledge.
I shall assume that esoteric knowledge exists and shall discuss Ouspensky’s statement that teachers of this knowledge are usually difficult to recognize. I shall do so because the two stories with which he illustrates his thesis are of great interest when they are taken in conjunction with Ouspensky’s account of his own search for a teacher.
Even as a schoolboy Ouspensky was interested in the idea of the miraculous, and as he grew to manhood his interest increased. When he was working as a journalist on the staff of a Moscow paper, his desk was stacked with books with such strange titles as Life After Death, Dogma et Rituel de la Haute Magie, The Sincere Narrations of a Pilgrim, and many others of a kindred nature.
A few years later he began experimenting on himself in the hope that by altering his state of consciousness he would be able to gain knowledge of a kind different from that which one acquires in an ordinary state. The difficulty was to discover how this change of consciousness could be brought about.
He knew that drugs such as opium and hashish produced a change and experimented with hashish. But the method was unreliable and he soon became dissatisfied with it, although it allowed him “to look over the garden wall,” as he called it. It was clear that something was missing, something that he needed before he could go any further with his experiments in changes of consciousness.
“I know it is not a dream,” he stated. “In these experiments and experiences there is a taste of reality which cannot be imitated and about which one cannot make a mistake. I know that all This is there. I have become convinced of it. Unity exists. But how to link what is above with what is below?”
Something, as Ouspensky rightly said, was missing, something had to be known before he could go further. “I feel,” he continued, “that a method is necessary.… And more and more often I begin to think that this method can be given by those schools of yogis and Sufis about which one reads and hears.” (P. D. Ouspensky, A New Model of the Universe.)
He allowed nothing to stand in the way of finding a method by which he could overcome the difficulties he had encountered, and a few years later he abandoned work on a book he was writing and went East. This was in 1913, an unpropitious date for such a journey as his, for the Kaiser was displaying a bellicose spirit and was building an ominously large navy for Germany.
In 1914 the storm broke over Europe, and without having had time to find what he had been seeking, Ouspensky was compelled to hurry home, comforting himself with the thought that he would return to the East. Two years later and in the most unlikely quarter - the old city of Moscow in his own country - he discovered what he had failed to find in Ceylon and India. He found Gurdjieff. Or did Gurdjieff find him? It is difficult to say. Gurdjieff had a wonderful capacity for giving the appearance of accident to what he had deliberately contrived.
What happened in Moscow in 1916 is narrated in Ouspensky’s later book In Search of the Miraculous. He recounts how, while he was giving lectures in Moscow on the subject of his prewar Eastern journey, a friend persuaded him to meet a certain Caucasian Greek, the leader of a Moscow group that was engaged in various “occult” studies and experiments.
“Persuaded” is the correct word, for on principle Ouspensky was suspicious of groups engaged in parlour yogi-tricks. He was therefore inclined to be extremely critical of this group and its teacher, but eventually he agreed to meet him at a small café. In his posthumous book he writes:
I remember this meeting very well, I saw a man of oriental type, no longer young, with a black moustache and piercing eyes, who astonished me first of all because he seemed to be disguised and completely out of keeping with the place and its atmosphere…. And this man with the face of an Indian rajah or an Arab sheik, whom I at once seemed to see in a white burnous or a gilded turban, seated here in this little café where small dealers and commission agents met together, in a black overcoat with a velvet collar and bowler hat, produced the strange, unexpected and almost alarming impression of a man poorly disguised, the sight of whom embarrasses you because you see he is not what he pretends to be, yet you have to speak and behave as though you did not see it. He spoke Russian incorrectly with a strong Caucasian accent; and this accent, with which we are accustomed to associate anything apart from philosophical ideas, strengthened still further the strangeness and unexpectedness of the impression.…
He sat on a sofa, with one leg tucked beneath him, drinking black coffee from a tumbler, smoking and sometimes glancing at me. I liked his movements, which had a great deal of a kind of feline grace and assurance; even to his silence there was something which distinguished him from others.
I have quoted this account of Ouspensky’s first meeting with Gurdjieff at length because I want to compare his first impressions with my own on meeting Gurdjieff, some thirty years later. Not that our situations were similar, for whereas Gurdjieff was a stranger to Ouspensky, I was familiar with both his ideas and his methods and had been studying them for a quarter of a century. Although I had never met him, I had long ago accepted him as a great teacher. But we all have our preconceived notions of what a great teacher should look like and how he should speak and behave, and Gurdjieff did not fit into the pigeonhole I had prepared for him.
When I met him in 1948 Gurdjieff was living in a flat in Rue du Colonel Reynard, near the Arc de Triomphe, Paris. It was a small flat suited to the needs of a small French bourgeois family, and its furnishings were not to my taste.
We - and by “we” I mean those many people who were now studying his ideas - were crowded into a tiny drawing room and were either perched uncomfortably on small wooden stools or else were squatting on the floor, listening to a reading from a manuscript entitled Beelzebub’s Tales to His Grandson.
The words were difficult to follow, and as sentences sometimes sprawled inelegantly over a quarter of the page of the manuscript from which one of us was reading, my attention often wandered toward the door leading into the lobby.
What kind of man would push open that glass-panelled door before the reading had finished? I had been led to expect that he would eventually join us, and it was as had been foretold. At the end of an hour’s reading the door moved forward a foot, stopped there for a full minute, and then was opened wide to admit Gurdjieff.
He stood there, looked around the room, his dark eyes taking everybody in, and then sat down on the chair that had been left vacant for him. Oriental, yes, for even without the tall kalmak that he was wearing nobody could have mistaken him for a Westerner. “Dark piercing eyes” as Ouspensky had described? No, they were dark, but kindly rather than piercing, eyes that noted everything without staring, eyes which were very much alive, but not piercing. What struck me more forcibly than the eyes was the height of the brow and the fact that although Gurdjieff was said to be over eighty years of age there was not a line on his face.
Gurdjieff believed very strongly in the good effect that eating together has on personal relationships, and the sharing of meals, cooked by himself, was a daily ritual in his flat.
It was in the small dining room into which we crowded an hour later that I was able to examine him more closely, and as I had the good fortune to sit directly opposite him, separated only by the breadth of a narrow table, I was in an excellent position to follow his every movement. And some things unusual in these movements immediately struck me.
Here was an old man, and old men are inclined to hesitate and to fumble; not only were these signs of old age entirely absent, but Gurdjieff possessed an extraordinary control over his body.
He was preparing a salad for us and was cutting slices off a cucumber, fishing for small onions in a bottle, dividing up gourds, and he was doing all this with the assurance of a skilled surgeon engaged in his favorite operation. The whole work of preparing the salad was done without one false or unnecessary movement. It was also done speedily, but without any vestige of hurry.
Nor was this the only evidence of his mastery over his body, for I had already noticed his movements as he entered the drawing room and again when he had preceded us into the dining room at the end of the reading. He was a heavy man with a very protuberant abdomen, yet he had moved with the quietness and smoothness of a cat. A cat, yes; Ouspensky had been right in talking about this “feline grace,” and although thirty-odd years had passed, his movements were still pleasing to watch.
The meal proceeded. It resembled an oriental feast rather than a European dinner. The dishes were strange to me and I often had no knowledge of what I was eating. The vodka was fiery and, to one who never took more than an occasional glass of wine, exceedingly difficult to swallow. I had been warned, however, that the toasts were obligatory, and knowing, as I did, that one had to pay for everything one received, I gulped it down bravely.
Gurdjieff spoke in a mixture of English, Russian and French, and even if I had not been obliged to swallow vodka I would have had difficulty in understanding him. But what an astonishing man he was!
Now that the kalmak had been removed, the full splendor of his clean-shaven head was fully revealed to me. It rose to an immense height above the level of his ears, reaching its zenith halfway between the frontal region and the occiput. His olive-coloured face was as smooth, forceful and serene as that of the Lohan figure which had impressed me so at the recent Chinese exhibition in London. The dark eyes rested on me momentarily from time to time, and in that brief glance he seemed to have absorbed all that there was to be learned about me.
“But why,” he suddenly asked of me, “why do you not eat more? Do you not like the food? Here, I give you something very special,” and he handed me, between finger and thumb, a small piece of dried sturgeon.
“I like it very much,” I answered him, “but you see I have just arrived from England and - ”
“Ah, yes, in England everyone is starved. What is it named?” A word was suggested by somebody farther down the table. “Yes, they are rationed. They pick here and pick there,” and he enacted so faithfully a sparrow picking up crumbs that I seemed to see it hopping about among the dishes. He was an excellent mimic, and he used the gift frequently in revealing to us our own personalities.
Dish followed dish, toast followed toast, and finally to my immense relief, came coffee and cigarettes. There had been a great deal of laughter and too much to eat and drink, but all the time he had been watching us and teaching us, even while joking. Nothing had happened accidentally; everything had been deliberately contrived by him. With a few words, a gesture, or by the mimicry of some personal peculiarity that someone was trying vainly to hide, he had been showing us to ourselves.
I fully realized at this, my first, meal in his flat the futility of any pretence. It was utterly useless to pretend to be otherwise than one was. “You are turkey cock trying to be peacock,” he had said to somebody during the meal, and when I glanced at the person I realized how fitting the remark was. So, apparently had the person to whom it had been made, for his manner immediately changed.
That was the first of many visits to the flat in the Rue du Colonel Reynard, and of many meals in the company of those who had come to Paris to learn wisdom from the man whose silence “was unlike the silence of anyone else.”
What varied company it was that squeezed, elbow to elbow, around his table: supporters from America, including the widow of a world-famous tenor; English and French doctors; businessmen and lawyers; a British peer; Americans, British, French and Russians of different classes, education and upbringing, and all of whom were held together by their mutual respect for this man who seemed to radiate power from his person.
No one can be so different from his fellow men or can flout convention so freely as Gurdjieff flouted it, without arousing hostility. All sorts of things were said about him: that he cast a hypnotic spell over his followers and fleeced them (and in a sense this was true); that he was a black magician and an irreligious and unscrupulous man. It is quite understandable that such reports as these should have been spread, for he was utterly ruthless in carrying out his mission - to attack without pity all that stood in the way of man’s spiritual development.
Gurdjieff used to say that a man revealed himself most clearly in his reactions to sexuality and to money. I could add yet another signpost to a man’s personality, namely, his reaction to Gurdjieff himself. Many reactions were possible, but it was impossible to be indifferent to him or to forget that he was there. One could be disturbed by him, dislike him, be scandalized by what he did and said, deem him a charlatan or a wise man, be frightened of him or grow fond of him, and one could do all these things in turn; but it was impossible to neglect him. Whatever he was, he was something on a much bigger scale than one had ever seen before, or is ever likely to see again.
Gurdjieff had a very wide range of knowledge, which embraced modern Western scientific theories as well as the special knowledge he had learned in his years of wandering in the East. But it was not so much what he said or what he did that impressed as what he was. Gurdjieff was a living example of the outcome of his own teaching, which he summed up in the words “the harmonious development of man.”
Man, he said, was an unfinished product. Nature had evolved him up to a certain stage and had then left him to his own devices, to struggle to a higher level of consciousness, or to remain as he was, an incomplete being. The distinguishing mark of Gurdjieff is the distinguishing mark of all great teachers. They are remarkable for their being, for what they are, rather than what they do. And it is this which makes it difficult to recognize them, for here in the West we grade men by what they do, not by what they have achieved in their own persons.
There is no need to be surprised, therefore, that Ouspensky’s German returned from India without having found a teacher, or that his dealer in parrots had no local following in Bordeaux.

The Life of Milarepa - part 3
Now Milarepa began his meditation training. Marpa shut him up in a cave with a supply of provisions. Milarepa used to start his meditations each day by putting a lighted lamp on his head. He would continue meditating until the lamp went out. After eleven months of this Marpa and Damema came to take him out of isolation and assess his progress. Milarepa was reluctant to take a break from his meditations becauseof the great progress he was making but he followed his Guru's dictates. Marpa now asked him what understandings he had obtained from his meditations. Milarepa first sang a song which he extemporaneously composed honoring his Guru and his wife and the teachings he had been given. In his song he requested that Marpa remain in the world until "The Whirling Pool of Being is emptied". After that he summarized his realizations.
After the recounting, Marpa was exceedingly pleased and told Milarepa that he had expected much but that his expectations had all been exceeded. Milarepa was then allowed to go back to the cave for more meditation.
By now Marpa was getting on in years. Since he began teaching Milarepa, he had made two more trips to India to visit his Guru Naropa and receive the final texts he had not brought back in his earlier trips. Marpa now called together all his chief Lamas and disciples, including Milarepa, and gave to each those mystics texts that would be most valuable according to each person's line of development. Each also received some relic that had belonged to Naropa. To Milarepa was given the teaching of Tum-mo in which the ascending and descending flows along the spinal column are united to produce the vital heat so necessary for meditation in the cold and solitary caves of the Himalayas. Then all returned to their own province except Milarepa who continued for several more years to meditation in a cave under the direction of Marpa.
Usually Milarepa never slept but meditated continuously, however one particular day he had slept for a long time and had a vivid dream wherein he saw the house he had lived in as a child all in ruins. He saw his sacred books within the fallen house being wasted by rain water, his old mother had died, and his sister was roving about the countryside with no attachments and no friends. In his dream he was weeping with great sadness and longing for his mother and sister and he woke up feeling very sad. He tried again to meditate but could not shed his sadness; instead the feeling grew stronger and stronger until he vowed to himself to go out into the world and try to find his family. So he pulled down the rock wall and went to see his guru Marpa.
As he entered Marpa's quarters he found him asleep with the rising sun just lighting his head like a halo. Just at that moment, Damema came in with his morning meal. Marpa awoke, alarmed to find Milarepa had left his cave retreat. Milarepa explained that he was overcome with sadness thinking of his beloved mother and sister he had left behind many years ago. He explained to Marpa his great longing to see them once more. Although Marpa felt there was little chance in finding the mother alive and little merit in making the search, he agreed to allow him to go. But, he warned, the fact that Milarepa had entered his quarters and found him asleep was an omen that they would not see each other alive again in this life.
Marpa was much grieved at heart thinking he would not again see his spiritual son alive but knowing this was the way of all the perishable things of the world, he requested Damema to deck the alter with offerings for their parting ceremony. He then gave Milarepa the final and highest initiation as well as the sacred ear-whispered tantric doctrines. These doctrines he gave only to Milarepa, among all his disciples. He charged Milarepa in his turn to hand them down to his most worthy disciple and so on for thirteen generations. Then in a final ceremony with the entire assembly of Lamas and disciples, Marpa occultly manifested himself in the forms of Gaypa Dorje and other of the tutelary divinities of the Kargyutpa sect and also other divine shapes and forms along with the various symbols associated with each deity such as bells, gems, lotuses, swords, etc. He then explained that these were various psycho-physical powers obtained after enlightenment and that they should never be manifested for an unworthy cause. This was his parting gift to Milarepa, and this, his spiritual son, greatly exalted in his heart to see that his Guru Marpa was veritably a Buddha himself. He vowed that he himself would gain such powers and show them in his turn to his own disciples. Marpa then told him that he could now depart since he had demonstrated the mirage like nature of all existing things. He instructed Milarepa to meditate in various caves made holy by previous saints in the locale of Mount Kailas, Lapchi Kang [Mt. Everest], and other sanctified places. He then gave to Milarepa a sealed scroll that was to be opened only on dire threat of imminent death. With great sadness, knowing they would not meet again in the present life, Milarepa took leave of his beloved Spiritual Father and Mother with the thought that would all meet again in the celestial realms.
He journeyed quickly to his homeland, crossing several high and dangerous mountain passes to get there. When he arrived he found things just as he had seen in his dream. His mother had died, his house was in ruins and all the neighbors were afraid to go near it thinking it inhabited by evil ghosts. His sister wandered homeless, none knew where. His field was choked with weeds.
He entered the ruin that was his house and found a mound with grass growing thickly over it. Moving the dirt he found the bones of what he knew to be his mother. He had the unbearable thought that he would never see his mother again and a deep sadness gripped his soul. He wept bitterly in his loneliness. Remembering his Guru's teachings on the transient nature of reality, he laid down using the mound as a pillow and entered into deep meditation. He soon passed over into the samadhi state in which he remained for seven days. On returning to normal consciousness, he reflected that the world now had nothing left to tempt him or bind him to it. He vowed again and again to himself that the life of solitary meditation was the only path for him. Exchanging his house and land for some food, he left forever his former homeland and proceeded to the Draktar-Taso Cave, the first of many caves he was to inhabit over the remainder of his life.
There he settled in the spacious comfortable cave, not even sleeping, but meditating continuously except for a single break once a day to prepare a meal of flour and water mixed with whatever root or edible he might find. At about this time Milarepa gained proficiency in the yogic power of Tum-mo, the generation of the Ecstatic Internal Warmth, in which the body generates a great deal of heat. This allowed him to stay relatively warm through the cold Tibetan winters with nothing but a thin cotton covering whereas most people had to wear thick wool and leather hides. For this reason he came to be called Mila - repa or Mila the cotton clad.
His daily routine of meditation continued for four years until his supply of flour ran out. This caused him great concern because he had vowed to himself not to return to the world for any reason - but with no food, he was afraid he might die without having attained liberation. He decided to walk about outside the cave in search of some kind of food. Not far from the cave he found a sunny spot with springs of fresh water, an expansive view of the area, with a large quantity of nettles growing all about. He made a soup of nettle broth and found it to be somewhat palatable. This was now to become his sole source of food for some time to come. He continued his meditations on his new diet, but without any nurturing food, his body soon became emaciated and the hair on his body began to take on a greenish tinge from the nettles. He became very weak and often thought of opening the scroll that Marpa had given him for a time of dire need. But he continued to make progress in his meditations.
About this time some hunters chanced to be in the area after failing to find game. When they first laid eyes on Milarepa's pale green form, they fled in terror thinking he was not a man but some kind of evil spirit. But on assuring them he was indeed a human like themselves they lost their fear of him. They demanded that Milarepa share some of his provisions with them as they were out of food but Milarepa told them he had none to share. They did not believe him, so they searched the area and not finding any began to ill treat him. Three of them picked him up several times and dropped him causing him great pain but in his misery he only pitied them and shed tears thinking of the evil karma they were creating for themselves. The fourth hunter entreated the others to stop ill-treating him and leave him alone as he did indeed seem to be a real lama for showing such forbearance over his ill treatment. Before leaving, the fourth man requested Milarepa to remember him in his prayers since the man had done nothing to offend him, and then the group of them left, laughing boisterously. Later Milarepa learned that Divine retribution had overtaken them as they were arrested by the Governor of the province. The leader was killed and all but the fourth man, who had restrained the others from harming Milarepa, had their eyes put out.
The meditation continued and Milarepa grew even thinner. The hair on his body took on a more greenish color. Again some hunters chanced upon his cave and also wanted provisions but seeing that he was living only on nettles, they left him the remainder of their own provisions and a large quantity of meat. Milarepa was very grateful to have some real food and he began to take some daily. The food gave him a sense of bodily comfort and spiritual zeal which he had not experienced in a long time and his meditations took on a new intensity. But eventually the food ran out and once again he fell back on his nettle broth for sustenance.
Several more years passed in this way and Milarepa's long lost sister Peta heard tales from hunters that had stumbled across his camp. They informed her that her brother was there and looked on the verge of death from starvation. She was amazed to hear even that he was alive and took the news to Zesay, who had been betrothed to Milarepa in childhood. Between the two they agreed that the sister should first go to see him and find out if the rumors were true
Approaching the cave, Peta was horrified to see the emaciated green body of her brother, with protruding bones and eyes sunk in his skull. At first she took it to be some strange being or ghost but recognizing her brother's voice, she ran to him crying and bewailing their fate. She expressed to him that they two were the most luckless people in the whole world. At this Milarepa explained that rather he was the most fortunate person in the world because he had attained to transcendent knowledge and Bodhi mind [the internal vision of a Buddha]. But his sister felt he was only deluding himself.
Peta had brought provisions and a supply of chang and after partaking of some food his mood was greatly elevated. However when he tried to meditate afterwards his mind was filled with a mix of pious and impious thoughts and he was unable to concentrate.
A few days later both the sister, Peta, and his betrothed, Zesay, came to visit him bringing cured meat, flour, butter, and chang. They chanced to come upon him when he was out getting water and he had absolutely no clothes on since his wearing cloth had fallen into tattered pieces over the years. His sister told him that no matter how she regarded him he seemed not to be in any way a sane person. They both urged him to at least go out begging for supplies on occasion. Then they went to get some cloth to cover his body with. But Milarepa felt that the hour of death was uncertain. his Guru had told him that his only avenue of success in this life was through continued meditation. He himself was afraid that if he didn't reach enlightenment in this very life, he would be reborn in a lower state due to the evil he had committed early in life, and so he ignored their advice and persevered in his meditation.
He finished the chang that Peta had brought and was eating well from the food left by Zesay but he found that his mind was now disturbed and his body was experiencing various pains. No matter how hard he tried to meditate he could no longer enter the samadhi state. Feeling there was no greater danger than not being able to continue with his meditations, he opened the scroll that Marpa had given him for just such a time of dire emergency. In the scroll he found the exact instructions needed for treating the present emergency and he immediately put the instructions into effect with the result that his meditations now increased as never before because of the healthy food he was now eating.
The knot of the central spinal column along which the psychic energy flows was now cleared at the plexus [i.e. chakra center] below the naval and the psychic energy current rose up his spine in its fullness. He now experienced a supersensuous calmness and clearness that far exceeded in its ecstatic intensity any of the states he had previously reached. He attained to new heights of realization in which he saw that the highest state of Nirvana and the ordinary state of Samsaric consciousness were but opposite and inseparable states resting on the base of the Voidness of Universal or Supra mundane Mind [ie Ultimate Awareness]. In his new realization he could clearly see that the samsaric or phenomenal existence results when the Universal Mind is directed along the path of self centered and self oriented awareness, and that the Nirvanic state of transcendence results when it is directed on the path of selfless or altruistic awareness.
Greatly encouraged by this new development, Milarepa redoubled his zeal and began to develop the siddhis or yogic powers that accompany full enlightenment. His production of the inner vital heat also developed fully so that he could easily sit amongst the frozen snows and melt the ice into water. A few of the people he had encountered now knew about his siddhis [psychic powers] and so Milarepa determined to go to even more isolated caves to prevent a steady flow of people coming to him with selfish aims.
As he was about to leave the area, his sister Peta came once again bringing him some cloth for him to fasten into a garment for his naked body. She remained a while and he tried to talk her into taking to a life of meditation with him. But the very thought was repugnant to her and she saw only his great deprivation. To her, he was the most miserable person on the earth and she felt that even though she had to beg for her own food and clothes, her life was far better than his. She tried to talk him into becoming a lama of the people so that they might bring him offerings in return for religious blessings. Milarepa saw that he would not be able to convert her to a religious outlook so he at least explained to her the doctrine of karma [i.e. the law of retribution] so that she would at least refrain from incurring any fresh debts from harmful actions.
While Peta was visiting, their evil Aunt arrived, the aunt who had started the entire chain of events so many years back by seizing the property of Milarepa's widowed mother. Peta saw her approaching and tried to prevent her from reaching the cave by withdrawing the bridge that spanned the chasm to the other side, but the Aunt pleaded to be heard. Her brother, the evil Uncle who had conspired with her, had died, and she now deeply repented all she had done and so she had brought a yak load of supplies and found Milarepa by asking about in the villages until she was told a wandering monk resembling a green caterpillar had indeed been through the area. Milarepa finally agreed, although reluctantly, to talk to her and he delivered several religious discourses to her reminding her of all the sufferings and misery she had inflicted on them. In her state of misery, Aunt took his teachings to heart and went on her way having been converted to a path that would confer eventual liberation. The sister Peta now also took her leave, having her mind somewhat turned to religion.
Milarepa now removed to Lapchi-Kang [Everest] and continued his meditation amidst the snows and isolation there. Altogether he meditated in and made holy twenty caves covering the region from Mount Kailas and Lapchi-Kang in Tibet to far off Nepal. It is said that besides his many human converts he also brought to enlightenment some superhuman [ie non-embodied] beings as well, including the Goddess Tseringma [one of the twelve guardian deities of Tibet who reside at Mt. Kailas]. The Goddess came to tempt him with her powers during his meditations and instead was herself liberated.
During his travels over the 84 years of his life he met many worthy disciples that were destined to come under his tutelage. Highest among the disciples was Dvagpo Rimpoche [Gambopa]. The most well known among them was Rechung who entreated him to tell in detail the story of his life [summarized in this narrative] which was recorded for the benefit of all sentient beings, even into the far future. These two disciples were respectively like the sun and the moon. The most exalted of beings met by Milarepa was a Maha-Purusha [Great Being] he had the excellent fortune of meeting - an Exalted Being mentioned by the Buddha himself as one of the guardians and protectors of the human race who live on through the centuries far from human habitation.
Besides his two chief disciples, Milarepa had 25 additional highly accomplished disciples, both men and women, who became saints. Another hundred made such progress that they did not take rebirth. Another hundred and eight Great Ones obtained excellent experience and knowledge from meditation. A thousand sadhus and yogis, both men and women, renounced worldly life and lived lives of exemplary piety. Innumerable lay disciples formed a religious relationship with Milarepa so that the gateway to lower states of existence was closed to them forever.
Thus did Milarepa radiate spiritual light like a beacon, drawing vast numbers of entient beings forward toward the light of deliverance and dispelling in all directions the darkness of selfishness and ignorance.

The Life of Milarepa - part 1
Milarepa is one of the most widely known Tibetan Saints. In a superhuman effort, he rose above the miseries of his younger life and with the help of his Guru, Marpa the Translator, took to a solitary life of meditation until he had achieved the pinnacle of the enlightened state, never to be born again into the Samsara [whirlpool of life and death] of worldly existence.
Out of compassion for humanity, he undertook the most rigid asceticism to reach the Buddhic state of enlightenment and to pass his accomplishments on to the rest of humanity. His spiritual lineage was passed along to his chief disciples, Gambopa and Rechung. It was Rechung who recorded in detail the incidents of Milarepa's life for posterity. The narrative of his life has thus been passed down through almost a millennium of time and has become an integral part of Tibetan culture.
In addition to Rechung's narrative of his life, summarized below, Milarepa extemporaneously composed innumerable songs throughout his life relevant to the dramatic turns of events of himself and his disciples in accordance with an art form that was in practice at the time. These songs have been widely sung and studied in Tibet ever since and have been recorded as the Hundred Thousand Songs of Milarepa. His faithful devotion, boundless religious zeal, monumental forbearance, superhuman perseverance, and ultimate final attainment are a great inspiration today for all. His auspicious life illumined the Buddhist faith and brought the light of wisdom to sentient beings everywhere.
The Life of Milarepa
Milarepa was born into the family of Mila-Dorje-Senge in the year 1052. His father was a trader in wool and had become wealthy by the standards of the time when his wife bore a son. The son was named Thopaga which means delightful to hear, and Thopaga, later known as Mila-repa [Mila, the cotton clad], lived up to his name as he had a beautiful voice and charmed his companions with his singing. The family lived in a large stone house that consisted of three stories held in place by a large central pillar and supporting columns - a mansion in comparison to the modest homes of his neighbors.
The brother and sister of Milarepa's father had also settled in the area along with their families, and the clan would often congregate at the great stone house of Mila-Dorje-Senge. The family was well to do and generous and became the darling of all the relatives and neighbors in the area. They would often gather at the house to enjoy feasts. The gathering of friends and neighbors would often fawn over the small children - the young son Milarepa [then called Thopaga], and his sister, Peta who was four years younger.
During this period the family enjoyed the admiration and attention of their neighbors, ate only the finest food and wore nothing but fancy clothes and jewelry.
About this time the father, Mila-Dorje-Senge, became gravely ill and accepting his impending death, called together the extended family and made known to all that he wanted his entire estate and all possessions put into the care of his brother and sister until such time as Milarepa had grown and married Zesay, one of the neighboring girls who had been betrothed to him in childhood according to the tradition of the times. After the fathers death, however, Milarepa's greedy Aunt and Uncle who had been given charge of the property, divided the estate between them, dispossessing Milarepa, his mother, and sister Peta of all their worldly possessions. They were forced to live with them in the lowest accommodations and were given only coarse food and even made to work in the fields.
Over the ensuing years their health suffered, their clothes were rough and tattered, the heads of the two children became invaded by lice. The mother and her two children who had formerly been the darlings of the village, now became objects of derision and abuse by all, who now spurned and ridiculed them.
When Milarepa reached his fifteenth year, his mother decided on a plan to recover the lost inheritance. She scraped together whatever resources she could borrow from neighbors and relatives and put on a feast, inviting all who had been present when her husband had died and made known his last wishes. As the assembled neighbors and relatives were feasting and drinking large cups of chang [fermented barley], she stood up and recounted all that her husband had said on his deathbed, reminding her husband's brother and sister that they were to be only caretakers of the estate. Now that Milarepa had attained his majority, she requested that all the property be restored to themBut the greedy Aunt and Uncle now claimed that they had been the original owners and had only loaned the property to the Mila-Dorje-Senge family and thus, Milarapa and his mother had no real claim on the property. The aunt and uncle now began indignantly slapping Milarepa's mother and the two children, calling them ungrateful wretches to act thus after accepting the charity of living with them and eating their food. Thus they drove them out of the large stone house to let the mother and children fend for themselves.
Some of the relatives and neighbors were sympathetic to Milarepa's family, but they were not sufficient in strength or numbers to oppose the clan of the Aunt and Uncle. And so it happened that the three were turned out of their own house. After that they lived meagerly, supported by the relatives of Milarepa's mother and charity from Zesay's family. The three were forced to work hard, exchanging their labor for a bit of food or a scrap of clothing. During this time they found no joy in their lives whatsoever.
One day Milarepa happened to be singing loudly, proud of his voice, when his mother overheard him and was stung to the quick by his unseemly outburst of happiness. She immediately berated him for his transgression in the face of the relentless misery of their existence. She thought over the situation and decided to take action. She wanted him to learn the black arts of sorcery in order to wreak vengeance on their enemies, the greedy Aunt and Uncle. Milarepa agreed that he would apply himself under a good teacher if his mother provided him with fees for the apprenticeship and living expenses. In order to do so, She sold half of the small plot of property that had belonged to her side of the family before her marriage and sent Milarapa off with money. Before he took his leave she very solemnly told him that she would kill herself in his very presence if he returned without having learned sufficient magic to be able to wreak some havoc on their enemies.
Milarepa traveled a distance away to a Lama who was known about the countryside as one who was proficient in the black arts. Along with some other young apprentices, Milarepa spent nearly a year learning mostly ineffectual magic rites with high sounding titles. At the end of the year, the pupils were sent off and told that if they applied themselves diligently they would succeed in their quest. Milarepa accompanied his companions for a time as they took their leave but then turned back to the Lama's house. Along the way, he collected a quantity of manure and dug a whole and buried it in the Lama's garden as a small gift to his teacher. The Lama observed this from his roof, and is said to have remarked that he had never had a pupil more affectionate and industrious as the young lad Milarepa was. The latter, went in to the Lama's presence and told him of his mother's vow to kill herself in his presence if he didn't learn some real magic. He then recounted his tale of woe in all its detail to the Lama who was greatly saddened by the story.
The Lama decided to confer some real power on Milarepa but he wanted to make sure that the magic would not be used unjustly so he sent a fleet disciple to Milarepa's homeland to find out if the tale was true. On the disciples return, he agreed to show him the true and potent rituals for evoking the Tutelary deities to take revenge.
Milarepa absorbed all the teachings thoroughly and carefully carried out the prescribed ritual for 14 days. At the end of the ritual the Tutelary deities appeared to him in a vision with the bloody heads and hearts of 35 of the relatives who had most ill-treated him. The Lama informed him that two of the guilty ones had been missed and asked Milarepa if he wanted their lives as well. He replied that he wanted them to be spared as witnesses to the power of his magic. Thus it came to pass that his two very worst enemies, the greedy Aunt and Uncle were spared from harm.
From a phenomenal aspect, the sorcery took the form of a disaster that occurred at the family wedding. All the relatives and friends who had been most offensive to him had gathered at the great stone house to celebrate the wedding. There was a big commotion outside and some of the horses kept in the yard started kicking and running about violently agitated, until one of them ran into the main supporting column of the three story house with such force that the entire house came crashing down on the wedding party with tremendous noise and force killing everyone inside except for the Aunt and Uncle.
All this was observed by some of those sympathetic to the Milarepa family who were just approaching the house.
Milarepa's mother quickly learned of the catastrophe and was ecstatic with cruel joy. She came gloating over the destruction that her son had caused telling everyone what joy her son had brought to her aging heart by causing so much death and destruction. The relatives of the dead were quite upset at the tragedy and more so to learn of her gloating. They talked it over but were divided on whether to get together and kill her in revenge, or to go after her son Milarepa, who had directly caused the destruction. After due consideration they decided to find and kill the son. Soon word their plans got back to the mother so she sent a message to her son, along with several gold pieces she got from selling the remaining half of her plot of land. In the note she described her joy at his success and requested him now to launch a powerful hail storm on the area, ruining the crops of their enemies and striking fear into their hearts so as to prevent further retaliation.
Milarepa received the note from the pilgrim courier and gave the gold pieces over to the Sorcerer-Lama, requesting him to teach him the art of launching hail storms.
Armed with his new magic, Milarepa traveled incognito back to his homeland and set up his ritualistic site on a hillside overlooking the valley of his homeland below. He began his incantations and soon dark clouds began to gather and then a succession of three powerful hail storms utterly ruined the entire barley crop of that year, a crop that had promised to be one of the heaviest in years.
After the destruction, Milarepa retreated to a cave in the hillside to escape the cold wind and lit a fire for warmth. After a few hours he heard some of his former neighbors walking by the cave he had taken refuge in. They had guessed who was responsible for this fresh mischief and were immensely angered by the all destruction he had caused, first to the 35 people killed in the wedding party, and now to the season's rich harvest of barley - utterly laid waste. The men were talking amongst themselves, saying as they walked past the cave that if Milarapa fell into their hands at that very moment, their vengeance could hardly be satisfied by chopping his body into tiny bits; such was their anger. At that instant one of them spotted the fire and guessed that it was Milarepa himself taking refuge in the cave. They hurried quickly and quietly away to go gather a party to go after him. Meanwhile as soon as they had left, Milarepa made good his escape and journeyed back to the Sorcerer-Lama.
The Lama congratulated Milarepa on his success but by now Milarapa was deeply repenting all the evil deeds his mother had urged him to commit. He longed for religion and wanted to be delivered from committing further evil acts. He worried greatly over the heavy debts of karma he had incurred through his evil actions and could think of nothing else. He wanted to ask the Lama Guru for religious instruction but didn't have the nerve to broach the subject so he stayed on, faithfully serving the Lama and waiting for an opportune moment to bring up the subject of his salvation.
The Lama now was called away to attend to one of his followers who had died after a short illness. The Lama returned lamenting that such an excellent man in the prime of his life had died so suddenly. He spoke on the transitoriness of life and the misery of this earthly existence and then started ruminating over his own life. He had spent his entire life up to that point practicing the art of dealing death and destruction and teaching those same black arts to many others. By doing so he had to take at least a portion of the karmic responsibility for all the evil acts that had come out of it.
In his mood of deep remorse, he urged Milarepa to go and seek out a teacher of the Holy Dharma and at least deliver himself and maybe even the Lama into a higher state of existence in a future life. This was precisely the opportunity Milarepa had been waiting for. He prayed to be allowed to take to the religious life and his teacher readily agreed, giving him gifts and a letter of introduction to a well known Lama versed in a doctrine called "The Great Perfection".

By George I. Gurdijeff
George Ivanovich Gurdjieff, b.1872, d. Oct. 29, 1949, founded a movement based on doctrines of enlightenment through meditation and heightened self-awareness that attracted many prominent followers in Europe and the United States. Of Russian-Armenian origin, Gurdjieff established his 'Institute for the Harmonious Development of Man' at Fontainebleau, France, where he settled in 1922. He wrote books like “Belzebub's Tales to His Grandson”,“Meetings with remarkable men” and “Life is real only then, when I am”. His disciples included architect Frank Lloyd Wright, painter Georgia O'Keefre, writer Katherine Mansfield, and journalist P. D. Ouspensky
, whose books helped to popularize Gurdjieff's teachings.
(Note: In the following text, “man” refers not to the male only, but it is used in the sense of “human being regardless of sex, person”)
In order to understand what the difference between states of consciousness is, let us consider the state of sleep. This is an entirely subjective state of consciousness. A man is immersed in dreams, whether he remembers them or not, does not matter. Even if some real impression reaches him, such as sounds, voices, warmth, cold, etc., they arouse in him only subjective images.
Then a man wakes up. At first glance, this is a completely new and different state of consciousness. He can move, talk with other people, he can make calculations ahead, he can see danger and avoid it, and so on. It stands to reason that he is now in a better position than when he was asleep. But if we go a little more deeply into things, if we take a look into his inner world, into his thoughts, into the causes of his actions, we shall see that he is almost in the same state as when he is asleep. And it is even worse, because in sleep he is passive, but in the waking state he can do something and the results of his actions will be reflected upon him and upon those around him. And yet he does not remember himself. He is a machine, everything with him happens. He cannot stop the flow of his thoughts, he cannot focus the flow of his thoughts, he cannot control his imagination, his emotions, his attention. He lives in a subjective world of “I love”, “I do not love”, I like”, “I do not like”, “I want”, “I do not want”, that is, of what he thinks he likes, of what he thinks he does not like, of what he thinks he wants, of what he thinks he does not want. He does not see the real world. The real world is hidden from him by a thick wall of uncontrolled imagination. He lives in waking-sleep. He is asleep. What is called “clear consciousness” is actually sleep and a far more dangerous sleep than sleep at night in bed.
Let us take some event in the life of humanity. For instance, war. What does it signify? It signifies that several millions of sleeping people are destroying several millions of other sleeping people. They would not do this, of course, if they were to wake up. Everything that takes place is owing to this sleep.
Both states of consciousness, sleep and the (false) waking state, are thus equally subjective. Only by beginning to remember himself does a man really awaken. And then all surrounding life acquires for him a different aspect and a different meaning. He sees that it is a life of sleeping people, a life in sleep. All that men say and do, they say and do in sleep. All this can have no value whatsoever. Only awakening and what leads to awakening has a value in reality.
How many times have I been asked whether wars can be stopped? Certainly they can. For this it is only necessary that people should awake. This seems a small thing. It is, however, the most difficult thing there can be because this sleep is induced by our so-called education and maintained by the whole surrounding society.
How can one awaken? How can one escape this sleep?
These questions are the most important, the most vital that can ever confront a man. But before this it is necessary to be convinced of the very fact of sleep. It is possible to become convinced of this only by trying to awaken. When a man understands that he does not remember himself and that to remember himself means to awaken to some extent, and when at the same time he sees by experience how difficult is to remember himself, he will understand that he cannot awaken simply by having the desire to do so. It can be said still more precisely that a man cannot awaken by himself, except in exceptionally rare cases, and we are not talking about those cases. But if, let’s say, twenty people make an agreement that whoever of them awakens first shall wake the rest, they already have some chance. Even this, however, is insufficient, because all twenty can go to sleep at the same time and dream that they are waking up. Therefore, more still is necessary. They must be looked after by a man who is not asleep any more, or who does not fall asleep as easily as they do. The twenty people must find such a man and hire him to wake them up and not allow them to fall asleep again. Without this, it is impossible to awaken. This is what must be understood.
It is possible to think for a thousand years. It is possible to write whole libraries of books, to create theories by the million, but all this is in sleep, without any possibility of awakening. On the contrary, these books and these theories, written and created in sleep, will merely send other people to sleep, and so on.
There is nothing new in the idea of sleep. People have been told almost since creation of the world that they are asleep and that they must awaken. Christ disciples even slept when He was praying in the Garden of Gethsemane for the last time. It is all there. But do men understand it? Men take it simply as a form of speech, as an expression, as a metaphor. They completely fail to understand that it must be taken literally. And again it is easy to understand why. In order to understand this idea literally it is necessary to awaken a little, or at least to try to awaken. I have been asked why nothing is said about this kind of sleep in the Gospels. But it is there spoken of almost on every page. This simply shows that people read the Gospel in sleep.
Generally speaking, what is necessary to awaken a man? A good shock is necessary. But when a man is fast asleep, only one shock is not enough. A long period of continual shocks is needed. Consequently, there must be somebody to administer these shocks. I have said before that if a man wants to awaken he must hire somebody who will keep on shaking him for a long time. But whom can he hire if everyone is asleep? A man will hire somebody to wake him up but this one also falls asleep. What is the use of such a man? And a man who can really keep awake will probably refuse to waste his time in waking others up: he may have his own much more important work to do.
There is also the possibility of being awakened by mechanical means. A man may be awakened by an alarm clock. But the trouble is that a man gets accustomed to the alarm clock far too quickly, he ceases to hear it. Many alarm clocks are necessary and always new ones. Otherwise a man must surround himself with alarm clocks which will prevent him sleeping. But here again there are certain difficulties. Alarm clocks must be wound up. In order to wind them up one must remember about them. In order to remember about them one must wake up often. But what is still worse, man gets used to all these alarm clocks and after a certain time he only sleeps better for them. Therefore alarm clocks must be constantly changed, new ones must be continually invented. In the course of time this may help a man to awaken. But there is very little chance of a man doing all the work of winding up, inventing, and changing clocks all by himself, without outside help. It is much more likely that he will begin his work and that it will afterwards unnoticeably pass into sleep, and in sleep he will dream of inventing alarm clocks, of winding them up and changing them, and simply sleep all the sounder for it.
Therefore, in order to awaken, a combination of efforts is needed. It is necessary that somebody wakes the man up. It is necessary that somebody looks after the man who wakes him. It is necessary to have alarm clocks and it is also necessary continually to invent new alarm clocks.
But in order to achieve all this and to obtain results a certain number of people must work together.
One man alone can do nothing.
Before anything else, he needs help. But help cannot come to one man alone. Those who are able to help put a great value to their time. And, of course, they would prefer to help, say, twenty or thirty people who want to awake rather that only one man. Moreover, one man can easily deceive himself about his awakening and make awakening simply a new dream. If several people decide to struggle together against sleep, they will wake each other.
Therefore a man who wants to awake must look for other people who also want to awake and work together with them. This, however, is easier said that done because to start such a work and to organize it requires a knowledge which a sleeping man cannot possess. The work must be organized and have an awakened leader. Only then can it produce the results expected from it. Without these conditions no efforts can result in anything whatever. Men may torture themselves, but those tortures will not make them awake. This is most difficult of all for certain people to understand. By themselves and by their own initiative they may be capable of great efforts and great sacrifices. But because their first effort and their first sacrifice ought to be obedience, nothing on Earth will induce them to obey another. They do not want anybody to tell them what to do. And they do not want to reconcile themselves to the thought that all their efforts and all their sacrifices are thus useless.
Work must be organized. And it can be organized only by a man who knows its problems and its aims, who knows its methods; by a man who has in his time passed through such organized work himself.
The wise men of the Orient, the Rishis, teach that Union with the Divine already potentially exists within us. However due to insufficient spiritual development, we are generally not conscious of this state of fusion with God, the Macrocosm. We see duality and multiplicity everywhere especially because of this ignorance regarding connection with the Macrocosm.
Thus ordinary people in this situation focus on both within themselves and outside themselves, and on the perception of differences rather than similarities.
The essential purpose in yoga is to return man to the perfect conscious state of non-duality; of perfection. Yoga gradually reveals the existence of many levels of consciousness within us. YAMA and NIYAMA from KRIYA YOGA are important steps in spiritual practice, and must be systematically and conscientiously respected. One aspect of Yoga is CONSCIOUS accelerated evolution. In general the evolution of life is coordinated by Cosmic Divine Intelligence, exterior to common awareness. Our spiritual evolution can be accelerated through awakening and utilising latent aspects of our inner universe, which can be gradually and consciously known. At the beginning we can be only partially conscious, sensing only vague feelings. This will manifest later in the form of global experiences, which will allow us to understand the mysteries of life and the Universe.
Being permanently aware and conscious has a powerful effect upon the speed of spiritual evolution and being able to live life to the full. It is also an excellent means to reveal a previously unknown and profound reality. MEENAKSHI DEVI (a yogi woman from India) dealt with this crucial issue in understanding and strengthening the process of being conscious. Even when beginning the Yoga path, she advises: “to be as conscious as possible in every way; this will indicate how unconscious we can be without even realizing it”.
This is an apparent paradoxical affirmation, but completely true for a yogi. Many superficial and impatient people desire to learn “the Yoga of being conscious”. However they continue be neglectful, ignore the fact that they do not know how to behave, are selfish and abusive. Despite this, they expect special and rapid results in Yoga, thinking that they decidedly deserve this. These types do not take into account that this beneficial and extraordinary jump can only be achieved gradually and in stages. To develop spiritually entails removing any evil; it is a fundamental transformation and purification of the person. This is exacerbated by the fashion today of selfishness, ignorance, lack of common sense and attitudes like “get all you can, when you can”.
More than anything, yoga disciples should learn to be patient, mentally open, and always ready to learn from any situation, both exterior and interior. If they do not have this attitude, they will be easily disappointed due to improper use of time and effort. Their actions will be very inefficient. Yoga can be defined as ABILITY AND INTELLIGENCE IN ACTION. Through ability, we understand how to use our own strengths and talents in an intelligent way with maximum efficiency. Through the subtle process of resonance we can comprehend the requirements for the amplification of power, and thus enable the optimal energisation of these endowments. NOW AWAKEN. Therefore the complete process of becoming conscious is the privileged modality that awakens and amplifies our natural ABILITY in a short time. Through constant, correct and systematic practice, ABILITY can be extraordinarily perfected. Only by being conscious can we really develop the skills and even paranormal powers that can result from proper YOGA practice.
